I just bought a brand new 3500 SRW Duramax and whenever im at low speeds and turn the steering wheel it makes a low groan noise, it almost sounds like my buddies jeep whenever he doesnt have enough power steering fluid in it. It's a brand new truck (300 miles) so i wouldnt already expect to hear noises from it:confuzeld , any ideas anyone????????

I seem to have the same problem. New 05 2500 3500 miles have not been back to the shop to ask them about it yet.

Asked the stealer about that just yesterday ,He said that it is b/c the pump runs the power brakes and the steering both at the same time and that is the way it is .

Must be something they changed between '03 and '05 because mine doesn't do that.

Mine also does the same thing, $tealer told me that it was pretty normal, especially when braking and turning because the hydroboost (brake booster) runs off of the power steering pump. It is just something that I have gotten used to, just like me mirror glass shake!

Any fixes for this problem yet? Anybody?

I have an 03, and it started to "groan" when making right turns only, at very low speeds. I drained the resevoir, put in Lucas power steering conditioner, gave it a few days (nothing at first), drained the resevoir again, installed synthetic fluid, and now have zero groan. I was told that even small trace dirt will create a "hard spot" on the steering gears. Lucas is a high detergent cleaner which releases these debris....yada, yada. End result, mine now operates fine, but again, it took a few days.

I had the same problem on my 03. The dealer fixed it by moving one of the lines to the break booster away from the firewall. He said it was covered in a TSB and that if this line was too close to the firewall it made this always present noise lound enough to be heard in the cab.

What type of synthetic fluid did you install?

By draining the power steering reservoir, did you use a transfer (turkey baster) type of set up and just drew out the fluid and replaced it with the Lucas conditioner? Or is there a drain plug or something to empty the unit? Thanks
