: engine noise/ boost leak??

I have a 2004 lb7 that i purchased about 3 months ago and I dont know if the noise was always as loud as it is but the engine noise seems to be pretty loud, sounds like you can really hear the valves, I was told that it might help if I get a valve adjustment. Is this true? if so how much can I expect it to cost me?

secondly a month or two ago I installed the bd drivers side exhaust manifold and when i was putting it in I had the boost tube off and now I have a whistle, I dont know if it is from the increased flow or not, but it sounds pretty prominent just to be more flow, I have tried loosening and tightening the clamps but it doesnt change the noise but recently it has been colder in the morns and it kind of changes the sound when its colder out side and the truck isn't quite totaly warm yet, the whistle gets a bit of a whine to it. just wondering if there is any way to detect a boost leak? I double checked if it was an exhaust leak and it's not.

usually you will have a whole tonne of black smoke with a boost leak, to test you can use a smoke machine. also the louder engine could be injectors. have you tested the ballance rates yet? that would be my first step.

I have a edge cts and when i test balance rates they are all with in spec, one of them is pretty close, cant remember which one but when truck is in drive it is around +4

oh and I just bought it from a dealer ship like 4500 miles ago. and they just put new injectors in when they got it.

will i have lots of smoke even if the leak is tiny cause it sounds tiny and i don't really have much smoke at all even when running my edge cts on level 3-4 which is like a 100-125 hp tune

the edges dont smoke a whole lot, if they just did all the injectors 4500 miles ago that's pretty early to have one out by 4 already. or did they only do the bad ones? what did you use to test the ballance rates?

i really dont know if they did all of them or just the bad ones. I might go to stealer ship and see if they will check it out. I used my edge to check it out

i believe the edge checks pulse width of the injectors not the ballance rates. i think the only scanners that actually check ballance rates are efi live a gm tech 2, and a genisys

it tells me that it is balance rate, and i dont know what numbers you get for pulse widths but i doubt they would be the same as balance rates, it is injector number 4 at cold start it is at -4 and when it starts to warm up it settles down to -2 ish
