I'm in South Orange County and lookin' for a mechanic to fix what others have guessed "sounds like an air pump". I took the belt off and it went away.
It sounded like the lowest pulley on the passenger side . . .whatever that drives (air -pump)? Its an 03 4X4 shorty
Any mechanics in the area?
Saturdays?

That is the Vacuum pump that operates the EGR and emissions system.

Easy fix, and since you live in Socialist Republic of California, you need that system.

Are you getting a Check Engine Light?
If not, then the pump is still drawing vacuum just making noise.

Yeah, it's probably the vacuum pump. They typically get loud long before they fail. Mine was making more noise than the engine for 20,000 miles before I finally just ripped it off.

Thanx guys, ya it s the vacuum pump. So they die slowly huh . . .good. I picked up a new pump and new belt, now i just have to get a pulley puller. What size do i need any idea?

Use a Power steering pulley puller, borrow one at Autozone, they should have it.
