IFS ALL THE WAY FOR ME. :ro)

SFA for me. I love the simplicity and durability of the Dana 60 in my '89 Chevy. Plus the lift kits are less than half the price of the IFS kits. I have less than 1500 miles on my '05 GMC, and I'll trade it in a heartbeat if the '07s have straight axles.

I would want 4 wheel independant, but it's out of my price range.

There is NOTHING a straight axle can do that an IRS can't, but there is a lot that a IRS can do a solid axle can't.

What does a Hummer H1 come with? :D

I'll take IFS anyday of the week.

...Plus the lift kits are less than half the price of the IFS kits...
100% FALSE! A quality SFA lift kit that rides half way decent will cost just as much if not more than most IFS kits. Please call Deaver, Donahoe, Offroad Unlimited or any other quality maufacturer and you'll see what I mean.

Ahhh the misconceptions of SFA's

I like them both. Voted SFA. If they built IFS without the frame drag look and bigger wheel wells I would probably vote IFS.

Go to a site that is based on SFA trucks and you'll no doubt have almost no IFS takers.

I understand that you LOVE your IFS, but that does not make my statements "100% FALSE". I wasn't talking about cheapo lifts like Rough Country or Procomp, but decent quality lifts like Skyjacker, Superlift, or Tuff Country. Their 6" SFA lift kits generally sell for about $600-800 including shocks, brake lines, and steering components. How much are you going to pay for a decent quality 6" lift for an IFS truck??? Even for a Fabtech or an RCD you're still looking at a minimum of $1600+. Granted, a top notch SFA lift from Offroad Unlimited might cost more than a decent SFA Skyjacker lift. But then, a top notch IFS lift from Cognito costs more than a decent RCD lift. Hell, I could call National Spring and have them custom build an SFA lift that would cost $$$$, but it would be in a whole different class than an out-of-the box IFS Fabtech kit. If you are going to be comparing lift kit prices, then you also need to be comparing equal quality lift kits. Look at the facts, then we'll talk about the "misconceptions"...

IFS , after mods, get rid of pencil thin tie rods, and peanut ball joints

SFA!!!! I don't know where you are looking at lift's but IFS kit's are way higher and SFA kits are way easier to install.

On a stock or mildly lifted truck you can't beat IFS for the ride and handling. If you lift things as large as I do SFA is the way to fly for brute strength and simplicity. IFS just can't take an offroad beating with 38"+ size tires. Not to mention you lose gear ratio and traction device selection. IFS has it's place, but it's not on one of my lifted trucks. As soon as someone buys my Fabtech lift it's Dana 60 front axle for me.

I voted IFS. I've had 2 GM SFA trucks and 6 IFS trucks. Yes the SFA trucks could take a little more abuse, but the ride is a little worse. Both of my SFA trucks had small Rancho 2.5 in lifts on them and they rode much better than stock. The IFS however, rides way better than any of my SFA trucks. My only wish is for GM to beef up the IFS systems a little. I would love a higher gross front axle maybe 5500 or 6000 lb, and some beefier tie rods, ball joints, and idler arm. The IFS concept is great, but with a little beefing up, it can be super.

SFA for me I be leave "Keep it simple stupid,” but I like the ride of IFS and have no real issues with them. I would buy four wheel independent as long as it suited my needs.

I voted IFS basically because I'm not gonna romp on this truck like I did my previous one. I did get a 4x4 because I will be in the snow, mud and sand often and needed the peace of mind. My old truck was an 87 Blazer with a dana 60 up front and a 14 bolt in the back. That was my romping truck, it was bullet proof and the axle's were awsome. For that type of action I would prefer a SFA, but for a plush ride I wouldn't trade the IFS I have now. The ride comfort on my DMAX is second to none in its class. My .02

Based on how this poll is going so far, I think the "General" has made the right choice.

SFA's are outstanding for hard core rock crawlers and other off road applications. I guess if you are turning you're 3/4 and 1 ton diesel pickup into an off road application, then you should put a SFA on it. If it's going to be kept onroad or see light to moderate off roading, IFS is the only way to go. Both have pros and cons, but my preference and vote goes to IFS.

IFS if they would just make the trucks 2-4" higher stock. It sucks having to pay $3k+ to get the height of the competitors. Stock trucks look like grandpa's truck. I have 25 years until I want to be called grandpa.

IFS was one of the deciding factors for going with GM in the first place.

IFS, with longer travel and beefier components. also, tighter steering radius like the GM SUVs (my suburban could turn on a dime !) while there at it, how about a decent sterring stabilizer and factory shocks

didnt vote because I dont feel im knowledgable to make a sound decision. have had 2 IFS, both Chebbys, and one SFA an old Ferd. I agree with Dozerboy about keeping it simple stoopit. Question, my buddies, all dodges, say if I had SFA on my truck that it would be faster at the track...T or F?

I would have to say false. I think IFS is an advantage in racing. You will notice the faster trucks are lower. Makes all the sense. So if racing is your thing GM made the rice, I mean, right choice.

I like the ride of my current truck. I don't use the truck off road or put a plow on it so IFS is fine for me. Now if I off road more I guess the SFA would be better.

It's simple..... if they were staunch SFA supporters they probably wouldn't be posting much on this site. After all they spent 40 big ones on IFS

Not for me. I'd love to buy a new GM truck (our family has been GM for about my whole 35 years), but feel a LOT better buying the SFA Dodge. The ride is VERY slightly better in the IFS trucks but I'm buying a truck, not BMW. I'm willing to accept a 'truck-like' ride for the SFA (if the Dodge is a 'truck-like' ride, I'll eat my hat--my '89 Suburban has a 'truck-like' ride, but the Dodge feels more like my wife's Grand Cherokee) and the Cummins motor. I also like the Dodge styling better (wish it was different, but I DON'T like the Chev---I could live with the GMC). I wish the Dodge didn't have unit-bearings or it'd be a total no brainer, IMHO.

If the '07 GM 3500 has a SFA (not-likely, IMHO), I'll consider buying one, but I'm kinda interested in what Toyota and Nissan will bring to the table about that time also..... {UD (Nissan MD) and Hino (Toyota's MD trucks) are EXCELLENT products and I wonder if they'll use some of that kind of stuff?}

Only because my other two options were Ford and Dodge. It's like voting for a president, you just have to pick the best out of the worst. If it was up to me, I'd have a GMC body/interior with a Cummins, an Allison, and Ford leaf sprung SFA suspension. :ro)

IFS, for the 2% of the time a SFA would be nice I would rather have the ride and control of an IFS. Solids have their place, and that is back in 1985 IMHO.

GM can keep the lousy suspension that is on my truck. Personally I think the ride is terrible. Especially when there is a significant load and the front end is just bouncing down the road.

If GM wants to have the #1 selling HD trucks, all they have to do is make it an option to have either IFS or SFA. That way everyone wins! I like both setups in different ways. I voted SFA for the fact that I like to lift my trucks. I wouldn't mind IFS if they would make it stronger, make the truck taller, and keep the front track inline with the rear. It will be interesting to see if the SFA rumors on the 07 HD's are for real, or just talk.

I voted SFA.. Yes, I think IFS has more potential, though the GM HD trucks current IFS seems more suited to a light duty vehicle.. Just my opinion.. And yes, you would only "need" the SFA about 2% of the time.. Just sucks when that 2% leaves you with two broken tie rods, cv joints, and a whole lotta other mangle under your front end that comes to a couple grand bill.. When launching the IFS, the tires toe inward as well.. Resistance is not a plus for racing.. If a person doesn't modify, drag race, or pull with their truck, I'd say it's a toss up.. If you do any of that, I'd say go straight axle.. As far as ride, some butt meters must be a little more sensitive than others, because I actually prefer the ride of the new dodge.. It feels more solid on the road, and doesn't have the "float" my 03 dmax tended to have.. No, I'm not bashing GM in any way.. Brand name means nothing to me.. I pretty much agree with lilwes278.. If I could have my way, I'd have dodge straight axle, cummins for a tow truck (dmax for a race truck-eventually), allison trans, and ford interior.. As far as looks, I like them all, except the new body style dodge is letting out.. Maybe it'll grow on me..

The ford interior is nice, but the seats look like they should be in a Nissan Pathfinder, smallest seats I have ever seen in a full sized pickem up?

I had a 99 superduty and it seemed much more roomy than the chevy or dodge.. My shoulders are a little too wide for all the seats with arm rests.. They just don't fit me well.. The ones with the console that folds up and down works for me..
