Ok, so I am sorda new here, been lurking a long time. I've done alot of searching but get conflicting answers or I should say opinions. I looking into exhaust. I have the egr plate and stick installed. I want louder than stock but not something that's going to sound to obnoxious(sp?). I was looking at the 5" but maybe too loud without the kitty. I read alot that the 4" mbrp is not much louder than stock, or is that just the catback? Is it louder with the kitty delete? I am losing the cat for sure(actually I'm going to keep it in case of a dealer visit). I also read that the 5" can be a little troublesome fitting wise. I'm not sure what the hell to get. I can be quite undecicive(sp?) sometimes. I realize it's all just a matter of opinion. What I need to do is find one around here that I like the sound of a get what he has. I just want to get it right the first time and not wish I had got something else. Any opinions :help:

I run a 4" straight pipe on both trucks. I like to hear the turbo scream for help. :D

I had the Banks first, wasn't quite what I wanted, so did a kitty delete (made my own) and then it still wasn't loud enough, so we spent several hours "unpacking" the muffler (nothing like gutting a $600 exhaust 2 weeks after you get it.) That was good enough for a while, then I put a MBRP muffler delete on it, and that is the cat's ass. I love it. Wish I would have done it a long time ago. Sounds great when you are on it, yet, not obnoxious when at low rpms or at idle. Real neat sound.

What do you mean by straight pipe? No muffler or cat?

Also will adding a programmer change the sound any? I don't have one yet but in the future i would like a small one. I don't want to fry the tranny and I don't want to spend all the money upgrading tranny. I just got my 05 a couple months ago. If the next gens are the sh*t I will probably trade this one in on one.

did you try a search.. KIDDING... its funny the LLY is so much quieter than the LB7 with the same exhaust kit. I sold a 4" complete kit to a friend with an LB7 and his was twice as loud as mine was. I've heard an LLY with straight pipe and it wasn't that loud at idle, but I never heard it on the road, just in the shop.

I met up with one of the guys here on the board tonight to listen to his Summit 5" system w/ a 6" tip (thanks Devil!). Sounded suprisingly quiet for a 5"! Not too loud inside the cab, even cruising with the windows down. Sounded real good when he got on it though (nice smoke too)! I'll probably be installing a Summit set-up on my '05 very soon... :grd:

I guess the different turbos LB7 -vs- LLY is what makes the difference in sound. It's the only thing that effects sound in the exhaust stream once the cat and muffler are gone.

Thanks for all the help guys, I can see this truck is going to get expensive. It's going to probably take some trial and error to get the sound I'm looking for.

I've got the Magna Flow Turbo back. Will the MBRP muffler delete replace the Magna Flow muffler and make it that much louder while crusing or just when hammering down?
