So the mystery owner finally dropped "Princess" off at a REAL mechanic's shop?

Those DYI injector fixes can be expensive.....

That's exactly what I thought at first, but then I realized the smoke was coming out of the exhaust! -:t

When my turbo went kaboom, the truck smooked about ten time that much, and it was about that color:eek: So; the turbo could cause it to look much like that, could it not?

This is bad....

For all of us novices out here, this is good stuff. I take it that this is what massive injector failure looks like...:(

Would you say that when the injectors first start to fail that there is a reduced amount of smoke and rough idling ?? Any other symptoms that you've seen people experience would help us become more prepared.

One last question... Is this sort of a gradual process during failure, or does it just happen in a massive fashion when cruising down the highway?

Thanks for sharing the pictures.

That truck had an injector(s) hung open, idles pretty rough as well. You should have seen it when I cranked up rail pressure and gave a few waps on the throttle!

Not sure the history on the truck, it come to me that way and left running smooth.

Eric,

Don't you just love it when they sub work out to you? Kind of makes you wonder who's the prime?

A few more of those and most customers will skip the middle man and go straight to the source every time and bring friends...

I'm new to the forum, but I've read a lot of comments in the last few days from people who have written about injector problems.

Just how wide spread of a problem is this?

Are there worse model years than others?

Should I be concerned?

Your Professional Technical advice would be appreciated !!!:)

It' a BIGGER PROBLEM than you think.... GM is starting to feel the heaT ON THIS AND THEIR DEALERS ARE STARTING TO CIRCLE THE WAGONS...

Sheesh, lfetchen. You haven't traded yet? I have yet to see those stats on injector failures. Until then, the Chicken Little routine is merely an opinion. You're certainly entitled to that opinion, but you shouldn't try to pass it off as fact.

CStone,
How's that overheating issue working out for ya?
Better start a list of things that need to be fixed before you take truck to town, you might need a ride back home after she over heats!!!):h

Some on here are not afraid to show their frustrations to GM not you, I know it's not intentional, but without people getting upset, GM would laugh at you and watch you drop your shorts fixing your own truck....
If that's not already happened.....):h

If you look real close, you just might get a figure in the fuel injector replaced survey area, it has 62 pages of facts of individuals having injectors replaced...

NEXT!!!!:muahaha:

Seen the same thing last week on my buds truck. He's allready had the all 8 replaced 10 months ago. Dealer shut down each cylinder one by one and got it down to the #2 inject stuck open.

Eric- how many of the "new" replace all 8 injectors have you seen fail????? I've had 6 go bad, and my buddy has 1 under his belt. Curiousity is all

Replacing injectors with the exact same type of injector that has a high failure rate seems like a moot point to me. I can't believe GM hasn't had Bosch come up with a different injector for the Duramax.

I thought that you want the balance rate to be near 0 but anything from -4 to +4 as acceptable but the nearest to zero(0) was great no? That is what mine was after 8 injectors were done, 0.9 on a few 0.8 on a couple and one was 1.0. AM I WRONG? iF SO i NEED TO KNOW NOW SO i CAN GO BACK.

rvgirl, your numbers are well with in spec. No such thing as 0's all across.

bob, time depends on interuption ect. If I shut the phones off and nobody chit chattin or "helping", Ive done a set of 8 in just shy of 4 hours. On a normal day with phones going off and walk in customers, it could take up to 8 hours.

I just dropped my truck off last night. I called a dealer and gave them my problem. Oilly undercarriage, running extremely rich, and grey specks of oily crap all over the tail gate. They said over the phone that the injectors are leaking into the crank case!
Has anybody seen this or heard of this before?
Dealer also said GM has extended the warranty to 7 years/ 200k for that problem.
Any help would be great!

Frank, 8 hours is warranty pay

Dont remember how long first set took, by then, I had done lots of singles.

I'd say 12-14 hours for a rookie?

I dont like to do them unless I have too, just to repetitive...

I've been bugging my dealer for over a year. Mine started the "lifter" type rattle at 617 miles. In the shop 4 times. Showed no codes, service manager said "you have a long warranty, when it blows up we can find the problem. Fuel mileage went down, power dropped way off at about 8,000 miles. Finally tracked down the GM Rep for the Northwest. He told the dealer to fix it now & at any cost. He agreed with me, injector problems. Nothing showed up on the computer. Then they drove it pulling a trailer. 40 M.P.H. up a hill. They replaced all injectors. Same hill & same trailer 70 M.P.H. with no strain & more to go. Having problems, bug the hell out of GM.

Blumax, what do you mean "lifter" type rattle. Just curious my gas mileage is going down and the enigne noise is bugging the crap out of me. I get a funny noise out of the engine at between 2600-2800 rpms and keeps making the noise until it shifts and the rpms drop. Is this suppose to sound like this at high rpms or could there be another problem. Just to describe it the engines regular rattle that it makes, gets maybe 3 times lounder. At this point.

When my truck had like 1000 to 2000 miles on it on this one camping trip every so often while I was going down the freeway it would start making a really loud rattling noise and start blowing some white smoke out the exhaust and kind of surge and I would have to step on the gas and it would go away. One time I just left it like that to see what it would do and it started blowing a lot of white smoke and when I gave it more gas it went away. It would just randomly happen every so often. After I got back from that trip I had like 1/4 tank left and when I filled up again the problem went away so I figured I got bad fuel. I never found any water in the fuel filter reservoir though and never got a water in fuel warning. I have about 16K now and maybe once a month or so when it is cold in the morning I will get a very slight rattling and a tiny bit of smoke on and off for the first couple of minutes. Does this sound like my injectors are going out? I have never had the problem since that one time.
