: A 6.5 guy needs your help in the towing category
DavesDmax 07-22-2005, 07:02 PM Ok guys, take it easy, I didn't mean to wake you guys up... ):h
There is a guy down in the Towing & Trailering forum that needs 6.5 expert assistance. His handle is Tracer. He's a new member so be gentle.
I told him to come up here and post if he didn't get a good answer.
Go down and read his post and I'll try to chase him up here where he will get a much more intelligent answer than listening to a bunch of Dmax guys that won't read "6.5" in his post.
Wow, I've never posted in the 6.5 forum. I don't have to ride a goat or anything do I? ):h
Thanks guys.
Texas Diesel Guy 07-22-2005, 08:52 PM Whats a DMax??
DavesDmax 07-22-2005, 09:28 PM It's one of them new fangled thingies with wires all over them.

Are you an engineer on the railroad? Or are they a gen set?

The local casino has a backup generator. It's a 16 cylinder Cat that puts out 2 megawatts of power. It only drinks 165 gallons an hour.
viking 07-23-2005, 03:46 PM My work toys are twin 16-645 E7B's, 3050hp ea @ 900rpm, running around a 1" rack they suck up 6000 + gals of the red stuff per day.
Turbine Doc 07-24-2005, 01:47 AM 3050 Hp that all, my work toys are 30,000shp run about 30 gpm at full bore of the of "red stuff" x 4 engines per ship
viking 07-24-2005, 03:12 AM Yeah well I'm limited to a 9' draft ........and they are GM's
Turbine Doc 07-24-2005, 03:31 AM Well I could install a Rolls-Allison one formerly GM rated to about 5700 Hp it's thirsty also about 5gpm at full bore, smaller than the Diesel but significantly lighter, say maybe 1500lbs, but 14,000 rpm would take some getting used to
DavesDmax 07-25-2005, 02:16 PM Are you an engineer on the railroad? Or are they a gen set?
Gen Sets.
They are our Emergency Diesel Generators for a Nuc Plant. They are 20-645's with a Marine sump and aux oiling for start-to-full load in 10sec.

Well, they are only emergency gen sets. Just for the essential loads.
My main toy is a 2772 MW Reactor driving a 1000 MW Turbine @ about 1,000,000 Hp.
It would take quite a few oil cars to keep it satisified....):h
nvmtnlion 07-25-2005, 02:52 PM Nuc plant?? So you ARE done having kids right???
viking 07-25-2005, 02:57 PM Gen Sets.

 That would take some getting use to, I prelube for 5 min
DavesDmax 07-25-2005, 03:52 PM Yep, done with kids. Girls will suck the life right out of ya.
viking,
The aux oiling basically prelubes 24-7. There is an oil pump running for the turbo and another for the mains. That's how EMD guarantees that they will perform as designed. The main Oil pumps are engine driven. The aux oil pumps also have a DC as well as normal AC oil pumps. You have to work real hard not to have proper lubrication on those puppies.
The sump holds 500 gallons of good old Delo 400. We don't run synth. We have a pretty good oil analysis program. We only change the oil when Maintenance has to go into the sump. Once every 6 yrs I believe.
viking 07-25-2005, 07:54 PM I see, that explains that, we run delo 477, only shut down to change filters or retorque, so an average month is about 710-715hrs, monthly oil samples and without f/o or water dutition we change oil (400 gal) at overhaul 40-45k hours.
