Thanks for a very useful site!

Anyone know the wattage of the stock engine coolant heater in a 2005 Dmax? A site search referenced both 600 and 1500 watts; manual says use an extension cord rated for 15 amps, which is consistent with the higher wattage. Reason I'd like to know is I'm thinking of adding a silicone pad heater to the pan on the Allison (to help with winter starts here at 9,000 feet), and don't want to overload the circuit.

Any of you in cold climates use a transmission pan heater, and if so, what wattage and vendor?

Thanks,
John

IIRC it isn't has high as 1500 watts, but is more than 600 watts. something closer to 900 watts comes to mind.

Thanks for the input. That would be in line with the factory block heater on my 94 5.7L gas, which was 750 watts.

FWIW, I found 250-watt pan heaters at JC Whitney, and may get one for the Allison and one for the engine sump. I've always been a firm believer that the easiest way to heat the engine oil is from the pan rather than from the coolant, though that being said, it also helps to heat the block with the stock heater.
