: Breakin in ??
1stdiez 07-22-2005, 05:03 PM Hey everybody:
Well it is almost a week since I bought my new DMax and I am very happy with it although when I read overheating articles, I get nervous a little.
Now, I have few basic question: I know based on manual, breaking period is about 500 miles, is this what everybody follows? Second, dealer told me first oil change at 3000 miles but I usually do my first oil change around 1000-1500 miles. What do think about this? When do you start using synthetic oil? I read somewhere, you shouldn't use it for few thousand miles. Thanks.

ya know i sold GM vehicles for a while...and never once heard of an overheat issue on these pickups...now however i live in colorado and it appears most the folks *****ing about overheating appear to be in the southwest towing extreme loads in well over 100degree temps...now i dont know for certain all the details of this alleged overheat issues but it would not suprise me if anything ran hot in those conditions...i wanna research that issue further and understand who it is thats having the problems and under what conditions they are having them...if a daily driver unloaded is hitting 240 plus then thats obviously an issue...
if a diesel that is modifeed towing a giant load with the AC running in the hot hot desert is overheating at 80mph then it would seem like well no crap its overheating a little...
anyways...i plan on learning more about this overheating problem and trying to understand why its happening...
as for breaking in...i plan on changing my oil soon...im at about 1500 miles...but cant really comment on your other items as i dont have full personal owner time under my belt...

Welcome Jones. Sounds like you have plenty of reading to do, and there's a wealth of information here. I encourage you to resist the temptation to resume typing until you have some grasp of what's going on in these threads. Probably should start with the EGR thread. Maybe you'll learn something about the capabilities of some of these folks. Hold your ego in check until you've come up to speed, and then I hope you will be able to make a positive contribution. I think you can, but there is much to do.
As for changing the oil at 1000 mi, there are already several very good threads on this site. Do a search. Generally, the folks here think it's a good idea.

ED...
I DONT feel i came across as having an ego...i simply stated that I had never heard of these problems and was basically shocked to read everything i have read in the last 2 days...i do not claim to be an expert by anymeans and think i made that clear but if havent then i will say it now...as for the overheating issue like i said..i had never heard of it until the internet and so i was suprised...at the same time i dont doubt it happened...i was giving some scenarios and made it clear i wanted to research the subject...ive been on ATV forums for almost 2 years now and have learned that EVERYTHING you read on the internet needs to be taken with a grain of salt...some will be true...some will not be true...bottom line...anyone can type anything they want...
i hope to learn more about this overheat issue...i hope you will not forsee myself as a hothead or somebody with an EGO...
thanks...
jason...
BTW i did sell GMs for 2 years but have not been in the car industry for just over 2 years...im a finance director at a multiline ATV store...however when i read about the overheat issues i called my brother ( service writer at our local GMC store) and asked him to ask around and nobody had heard of the overheat issue and then called a good friend at the chevy store (one i worked at ) and asked the same to him and he had never heard a thing either...
so i just merely stated that I had not heard of these issues nor the people that im in direct association with...i will read further...and would love to see some factual data on the matter and maybe get to know those who have blown motors or boiled over due to this issue...
thanks again

lilwes278 07-22-2005, 06:00 PM ...no crap its overheating a little...
I think your sarcastic response (on only your 7th post) is what would lead people to believe you have an ego problem.
I DONT feel i came across as having an ego...
Typing in caps when disagreeing with someone is viewed as yelling (or in a raised voice) on these forums. Again, not the best way to create a positive image.
Also, coming here and (admittedly) not knowing much about these trucks, with such long-winded responses makes you seem far from humble. I agree with Bettered in that you should do a fair amount of reading and research before negatively chiming in on people's posts. Most people are here to share the tremendous wealth of information or to be social, not to argue or make enemies. Instead of taking such a defensive position, think of Bettered's comments as constructive criticism.

That's pretty funny. As you read through these posts, you will find a number of people with overheating problems who have carried their trucks (with codes) to the dealers and been told they were not aware of any overheating problems. Maybe there simply aren't any! That's it! Problem solved. Worked for Clinton, why not GM?
Sorry, I can't help myself. There are some folks in these forums who are talking with GM people about this issue. For dealer service folks to suggest they're not aware of them says to me that I don't want my vehicle serviced at their stores. Either they don't know what's going on, or they don't care.

vista507 07-27-2005, 08:41 AM Fstdxl, I would not worry about what people say. I am new to this forum also beacause I used to be a Ford guy. Ford bought two vehicles back and I am having nothing but problems with a Ford grate diesel I installed. I did not want to dish out 40K+ on another lemon. I believe only dumb answers exist not queations. Read the threads it easy after a while to sift through knowledge versus ego. Have fun and enjoy :)
