Well I searched and didn't see anyone having my problem. When there is no trailer hooked to the truck the brake controller shows red and says "WARNING, short to battery no brakes" (sometimes it will have the normal screen but most of the time is the warning). When I hook the trailer up it works just fine. Only once did the controller show this warning while the trailer was hooked up but the trailer brakes still worked fine.........
I looked in the little book that comes with the brake controller and this is not one of the warnings listed in the book......really it sounds kinda stupid....of course it is shorted to the battery or there wouldn't be any power to it haha
I think I might call the company and see if the controller is just defective....

I have a P3 also and I've talked to Dan's Hitch who installed my curt Q 20k 5/w hitch and the P3 brake controller. They said it's not a problem and sometime is caused by moisture in the brake connector. My P3 works fine also. I've got my settings maxed out towing my 18k Mobile Suite though.
Happy to have the Banks Speedbrake to help slow that bad boy down too.
Safe Travels,

You know that sounds kinda like it. I have noticed that on hot dry days it seems to be fine with no trailer......if its humid or raining its warning me......Just kinda pisses me off that its always showing me a warning

Next time you get the warning spray the connector with WD-40 and see if it goes away. If it does, you may want to coat the connectors with silicone dielectric grease to prevent it from reoccurring.

Well I have already put the dielectric grease on the connector and it didn't change it

I have the same problem after it rains or its humid. I called the company and they said it should work if you plug the trailer into and it does. The rep told me that they are super sensitive to moisture.
