hello just changed my oil and the gauge/level came off. any one elese have this problem. and if your getting up there in miles you may want to replace it $20. at gm.

That happened to me also a couple months ago at around 150k. I keep putting off getting a new one for no other reason than being lazy. Good thing to look out for. You wouldn't want that thing to come off in the oil!

Does the dip stick show a reason for falling off, like a crack etc. I look at my tip carefully and it looks like it could never come off. Not a good thing to have happen.

it looks like its pressed on there was only about 1/4 inch clean on the braided wire not much contact area. and i just checked the oil prior and couldnt tell it was comeing off.

I hear about that on this forum from time to time and wonder if that tip comes off because the dip stick is yanked out all the time or if it has been taken out slowly each time. I check mine each time it is taken out, maybe every 3 or 4 K miles and it looks good,

Later I did add a little more twist to the blade to make it slide past the snags better. I also clamped a short piece of rubber hose to the top of tube so the top end of the "new" dipstick seals better.

im very carefull removing the dipstick, no reason to yank it out but you can feel it grab a little like the alignment piece should be lower.

Maybe "Made in China" like those tail gate straps that were recalled a few years ago.

When and if it falls OFF how do you retrieve it? :(

:^) You don't. Unless you drop the pan or it comes out when you change the oil.. (but I have a Fumoto Valve)
