As current LLY owner that still overheats, I was wondering if anyone has put three ingredients together yet. Fan noise, engine and trans temps.

Was this not resolved in 06?

I did a little write up on this, I went from an lly to an lml I believe there is a huge difference!

This is a totally new design on the LML and was just wondering how the LML was doing on the three things that would bring an LLY to overheat. Did not mean to bring up any discussion on the LLY overheating problems. Thanks

I'm doing a 7 mile 7% grade into Death Valley with a race car trailer and gear totaling 13,500 lbs on Saturday morning.

190 Panamint Springs, Townes Pass to Stovepipe Wells and back

It was 119 in Stovepipe Wells today, and 106 on this side, so we'll see

I know i wasn't discussing the lly I was talking about the lml. I had an lly
had the same issues with the lly, now i have an lml and these problems have been addressed in the write up i brought that up.

Okay, here goes:

8-22-10 3:30 pm, highway 190 from Stovepipe wells to Townes Pass is a 11 mile tug with grades from 7 to 9%.

118 degrees, 2011 C3500 HD DRW, loaded 28' Roadmaster race trailer 20K GCVW (same package weighed 19,600 with 08 C3500 D/A DRW ext cab)

leaving Stovepipe Wells@ 118 degrees (sorry for blurry, hard to hold still while driving)

Here is the hill:

Just over the pass, at the rest stop:

Synopsis: You are going to be hard pressed to overheat these trucks.
The highest water temp I saw was approx 220 (a needle's width above 210)
Max tranny temp was 192*

The majority of the pull, the gauge never left the normal 210* mark

It did down shift to 3rd a couple of times, but maintained speeds of no less than 50 mph

the exhaust brake is awsome, only had to touch the brake about 5 short times, to trim the speed and allow it to downshift.

The 08 C3500, I had to alternate between truck and trailer brakes manually to maintain speed, and eventually heated the truck brakes enough to create a vibration in the front rotors until they cooled.

In the 11 truck, you never even get close to needing the trucks brakes that much.

I actually could not run it max power up the hill, because I was catching other vehicles, even the cars--lol

You pulled a 9% grade at 50 mph for that long? That truck is a animal. Any idea of DEF usage?

It is a animal, I was very impressed......

It now has about 1600 miles on it, I got the DEF light at 1200 miles (it said 296 left) so I added 1 gal, then got home and added 2.5 more.

So I won't know the DEF usage till next time I get a light--lol

I think my def was topped off at my dealership 3,500 miles 40 percent towing and no def light yet!

Thanks for the update. Looks like this forum will not be clogged up with the thousands of posts on overheat discussions in the LLY forum which is great. I think I read everyone of them since 2004. Hpefully there will be no major design flaws like the LLY.
