I see were the 2011 duramax equiped trucks come with exhaust brakes. Anyone know if this is a electronic system like the Banks speed brake or are they actually putting a butterfly type valve in the exhaust system? I am considering having a Banks speed brake put in my 2008. I pull a fifth wheel and spend a lot of time in the mountains and encounter some 8 & 9 percent grades.

They are using the variable geometry turbo to do it. Closing the vanes at idle throttle. Not sure if they are making use of the air intake valve though.

Sounds like the same way the Banks Speed Brake works.

Pretty much the same. I believe it ties in closely with the tcm as well so the allison is used together with the turbo to slow the load.

Ordered the Banks Today through a dealer who will also install it. Getting the new on/off for about $900 installed. Hope I'm doing the right thing.

I have been talking to Banks about the brake and they quoted me $1100 installed so it looks like you have a good deal going.

The shop I found in GA said it would take about an hour to install. Guess it depends on how much the shop thinks there time is worth. Camping World said something like $1400.00 installed but they always think their time is extremely valuable.

Mr Gale Banks works real close with GM and has helped them design several systems. Go to his web site at bankspower.com
