: Edge Evolution - where to start
theaceman 08-16-2010, 01:07 PM Well...I finally broke down and bought an Edge Evolution.
I dont plan on doing any racing or pulling.
Im not even 100% sure why Im doing this, other than hopeful to gain a few MPG.
Any suggestions on other things I might need to do along with this new addition?

Get the race version so you do not get the egr code...
sludge06 09-01-2010, 03:30 PM I'm running the Evo on my '06 and I really like it. I keep it on level 4 (except for towing) and IF I can keep my foot out of it I consistently get 2.5 to 3 mpg better than I did stock. The added power is quite nice too and it seems to defuel plenty enough to keep the stock trans happy.
My only "engine" mods are Airaid intake (probably a waste), 4" turbo back exhaust, Evo, block and fingered EGR, and PCV reroute. I'd like to do the hot unlock for it at some point but may do a trans-go jr. for the tranny first.
stump_breaker 09-01-2010, 04:10 PM Be wary of the EGT probe. It's as fickle as a woman. I just had my second one go out in 3 months and Egde is sending me a 3rd pro bono. They are going to a new company the end of this year to have them remanufactured which should cure the problems.
Other than that, I run no higher than level 2. Do your updates and enjoy!
I used to get an EGR code on my truck when I went to a straight pipe. Since I have installed the Evo, I cleared the code and it has not returned.

Do you have the older evolution or the cs/cts evolution? The new design is much better.. I have not heard of problems with this style...
stump_breaker 09-01-2010, 06:49 PM older Evo. Casey with Edge said there might be an issue with the injection molding which is why they are changing injection molding contractors..
Warnberg 09-02-2010, 12:33 PM Edge CTS here... I have had Zero issues with it... I also added the MBRP 4" cat back exhaust system to the truck and I have yet to "throw a code".... no block off, no EGR re-route, nothing but those two mods... I'm getting 15 city, 19 HWY average....

Do you have the regular Evo or Race Evo? What level do you run it on and did you notice a change to your exhaust tone? I have a cat back as well and was told if the cat is in place the tone will not change with the Evo.
Warnberg 09-03-2010, 08:06 AM I have the standard Evo,did not get the race version. I usually run a level 1 for daily driving, will put it on level 2 if towing the boat and I have played with level . I didn't notice any tone change in the exhaust, not in the cab anyway... I can say it is louder if I jump on it under a bridge or under an overpass (someplace the sound can bounce off the wall) and the windows are down.
stump_breaker 09-03-2010, 08:09 AM Interesting you guys didn't notice a change. My hiss at idle went away, more so on level 2.
Warnberg 09-03-2010, 09:16 AM Well, I must confess... the stock exhaust wasn't on my truck for more then a week tops before it was changed... but as far as a tone change between levels? I haven't noticed that either, but then again 98% of the time I'm on level 1...
I did notice the turbo spin up much faster with the new exhaust.

Yes, this is what I am talking about. I think it was you that said the tone wouldn't change with the cat back. I still haven't got an Evo.
I definitely got much more tone when I put the Cat back on and the turbo spools a littler quicker.

Naw, wasnt me. I haven't had a kitty since a few weeks after having the truck and way before tuning it.

It was definitely you. You were saying that the Evo got rid of the hiss on your truck, but since I still have a cat on the hiss would remain once I install an Evo. How's the power on level 2? Touchier throttle?

I believe you're mistaken as I don't have a clue about the catback system.
Level 2 is a bit touchier on the throttle and I like the power I just see no need to run the extra unless I am towing. Even then I like the turbo brake option better than the power increase.
I run level 1 about 95% of the time. It suits my needs just fine and makes me feel like I'm not stressing the tranny as much. I saw no mileage improvements on either level and it not worth it to me to go to 3 or 4 and take a chance on frying the tranny. A $5k rebuild for a possible 1-2 mpg gain does not compute in my checkbook.
