I am new here. I have a 94 3/4t k2500 4x4, with 6.5 turbo. have 192000. miles. believe I have 4:11 gears, with auto trans.. I just bought a new tractor and trailer, weight is 6500 lbs. tows ok on flats, when pulling up hills, (mile or so) on hi-way, my temp gauge started to get too hot, almost in the red, 250 or so.. but goes back down when you flatten out. Could only get about 35 to 40 mph up the hill. After this has happened I went and got tranny and cooling system flushed., hope this helps,. Now, Should I install a tranny cooler, and where will It fit in? and, or, should I change the clutch fan out to something different? Or do you have any other Ideas? How do I get a little more cheap power?
This might be a little to much to ask maybe at first but I'm trying.. Thanks much Tracer...:ro)

Welcome to the Diesel Place!
I'm sorry that I can not help you with tranny cooling issue but there is a 6.5 forum category and those guys are really knowledgable to the 6.5 trucks. I don't know if they come down here much but you may want to ask the question in that forum.
If someone doesn't come around to help you out. You can PM John Kennedy or MikeL. for some assistance.
John as a diesel performance shop and is very well versed on all of the GM power plants.
MikeL. is older than dirt and has a transmission shop in L.A. He is our resident expert on all things tranmission related. Mike hangs out on the Allsion categories.
I hope that helps out. If you want my opinion, I'd put a big honking tranny cooler on that bad boy. Right in front of the rest of the coolers.

Tracer,
Temps got to hot on the your Trans temp gauge or water temp? If it's water temp. How old is the water pump? Have you upgraded to the HO pump (97' cooling)? What size stats are you using 195* or 180*. A few weeks ago I pulled my buddy tractor for him with my Blazer about the same weight and the hottest my water temp got was 200* going up hill, and on the flats about 185*(Texas Hill Country). Trans temp never got over 210*. Like DavesDmax said come on up to the 6.5 place and we really can help you start making some cheap power. BTW I think DavesDmax said he going to ride a goat or something LOL. J/K.

Some pre-97 had some cooling promblems. I had about 212,000 on my original and my temps startesd going up really fast pulling loads. Went to the 97 cooloing system, HD fan with clutch, and 180* stats. Empty truck runs about 180* and like I said pulling the same weight as you did 200* max. One of the best mods I've done so far.
