I have a Bully Dog PMT and need to get my Pyro Probe installed. How and where is the best place to do this?

You can place it in the manifold just between the rear 2 cylinders on either side of the engine. Passenger side is probably the easier one to access b/c of the thicker area to drill and tap. Banks power provides instructions in PDF format on their website for exact directions if you wish to check it out. They, like most, suggest the passenger side as a point of installation. Another alternative is a manifold from a company like BD. They offer a replacement driver manifold to rid the restriction caused by the d/s crimp by the steering shaft. This manifold comes with a threaded bung for pyrometer installation elliminating the need to drill another hole and tap. Good luck my man.:thumb:

Our instruction manual says to put it on the drivers side.

I personally dont like that spot. its kinda a pain to get to it.

on the passanger side is alot easier. All you have to do is lift the passenger side skirt and it gives you easy access.

this is where i put mine

All are right here and I remember reading sometime back in 2006 that the probe should be placed on the pass side manifold as close to the number 8 cylinder as possible as this would give the most accurate reading. It was a test that I remember reading about.

I was told to put it in the drivers side exhaust manifold because that is going to be where you will find the hottest temps because of the crimping.

This may have some truth to it, only b/c the heat concentration would rise ever so slightly, if at all, at the restriction point of the crimp. This would only be possible if one were able to place the probe @ the exact spot the heat dwells upon. There realy isnt a feasible area to place the thermocoupler around the radiused indent. The surface area of the manifold is cylindrical in shape making it difficult to tap into in that area. Additionally, you would have to contend with the obstruction from the steering shaft. There will always be slight temp differentials from bank to bank and from cylinder to cylinder. This is due to coolant flow and air/exhaust flow, in addition to many other variables.

Thanks for all the info. When I get ready to install my EGT probe I will know where to put it.
