Hello everyone, it has been a while since I posted on this site. After running dogs all night hunting hogs with friends in South Texas, I decided to head home at 6:30 am. Unfortunately, I fell asleep at the wheel with the cruise set at about 70mph. I jumped two big concrete culverts and ended up barely missing a huge tree, mailbox, and fence. The axles broke, wheel flew off, frame was twisted and bent. It was a mess, but I walked away from it with nothing more than a minor concussion. I was bouncing around offroad for about 100 yds. I was just sick about totalling my baby, but I just got into an LMM and I actually love it! Are there any issues I should be aware of with an LMM? That LLY was an unbelievable truck and I am hoping my new one will be just a good if not better.

first, the DPF will turn to crap if you put much of a tune on it, but it is ~60 hp more out of the box. My wife was very happy going from her old lly (05) to her new lmm (08)..
About once per tank the mpg's go down the crapper, that is the regen... lasts ~1/2 hour, then all is better. Overall the 05 got more miles per tank the then 08... ~75 if memory serves...

Thanks for the heads up.

Delete the DPF...you will get more power, better mileage, better sound, and no more regens. Oh, it will also void your warranty.

Nothing to do with the models but i see not only that the bumpers took some hits and held up great but you also put them on the LMM. Shame to loose a truck that has been great to its owner but stepping into something newer is nice too. Good luck with the new truck.

Do you still have the LLY?

Sorry to hear about the old truck. Glad you came out of that crash with only a mild concussion. I think if you'd hit the tree, you would have been seriously jacked up. You will love the new truck. Think it through before deleting your DPF or CAT, one of your fellow Texans got pulled over and cited for no DPF and was fined $2,500.00. I had a 2004.5 Duramax, which I sold to my brother, and between that one and the LMM, I love the LMM.

I miss my LLY to this day, even tho I've had my LMM for 3+ years now. I think the reasons are because the LLY was just the way I wanted it with the Edge and Cool Duals. The LMM is more of an issue with the DPF and so far I haven't done anything to modify it. Funds are a concern too, since the economy was better when I had my old truck and could spring for some gadgets. I love the Banks stuff and when I can do it, I will add something to this one. This truck definitely has more power than my '04 off the lot and certainly more creature comforts due to the LTZ package. It is a better truck overall and now that it's paid for, it won't be going anywhere for awhile. Still think about the smoke and smell jumping on the throttle with the '04 tho......

Your story makes me shudder, and give thanks, for your life and mine.

When I graduated from high school (1973) my two best buddies and I left from Iowa for Canada for a long anticipated camping trip, and I was driving my Dad's 71 Olds Delata 88 (425 motor). I drove all evening and through the night finally going through the Badlands of South Dakota. We then got onto the interstate going into Rapid City and I think that I had the cruise set at 70 or 75. My buddies were asleep (one in the front and one in the back) as I (very foolishly) continued to drive. With the calm of the interstate, at about 5:30am, I fell asleep at the wheel right on the approach to a bridge overpass. The 71 Olds delta 88 hit the guard rails as the car went up over the bridge. The guard rail wooden posts broke free (as they should have) sling-shoting the car onto the bridge where it zip zagged back and forth hitting 1st one side and then the other of the bridge, finally coming to a stop. We were all OK except my buddies suffered compressed vertebrates in their backs. They were hospitalized for a few days and then we all headed back to Iowa. I only broke a finger - I guess as the wheel spun quickly when the front wheel 1st slammed into the guardrail.

I have felt a combination of guilt and thankfulness ever since - we could all have been easily killed, or any one of us. I am so thankful to the good Lord to this very day! My buddies and I are all alive with wives and children - I am so very very thankful!

You were also given another shot at life - please be thankful and drive carefully in your new Duramax LMM. I have an 08 LMM and drive 2,500 miles per month - I love my truck and feel that it is a safe vehicle too!

Thanks for the kind words. I am definitely very thankful to still be alive! An experience like that really makes one stop and think. No, I do not have the old truck any longer. Once the insurance co. cut me a check, I never saw the 05 again. I am really liking the 08 though I do miss my old truck. Those bumpers have helped in many situations, especially when a deer steps out in front of you as you are moving at highway speeds! I miss the smoke and smell of jumping on the throttle on that 05 as well.

Do you still have the LLY? If so, want to sell the gauge cluster?

Nice new truck. Glad to see that you're OK and that you jumped right back into a Chevy.

Thanks. I wouldn't drive anything else.
