I have a '05 GMC Duramax with 140,000 miles on it and a few weeks ago I noticed that after I fuel up, my fuel gauge would not read correctly. Anytime I would fill up or put $20 - $30 in it, the gauge would read correctly for a little while but give it a few minutes and the gauge would move anywhere from 1/2 tank to empty to etc... The truck runs fine with no problems it just a pain in the butt right now not to being a 100% sure how much fuel I have in the truck. I reset the the "Fuel Used" and Odometer to help gauge when I need to refuel.
I am assuming that if its a Level Sensor it is in the gas tank and I'm told it's easier to remove the (6) bolts from the bed, tilt the bed up and prop with rod or 2 x 4 and then replace sensor? Is there anything else I should change while replacing the Level Sensor or ???
Also, if it is one of these items, are they Dealer only or is there another trusted resouce for replacement parts?
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
