Well, I just got my A-pillar and AutoMeter guages. I am planning on painting the with some color matched interior plastic paint (GM tan made by PJ1) that I got with the guages. It says on the can that for light colors, you should apply a primer coat. Of course, nobody told me that when I ordered the stuff. I am wondering if anyone has experience with the PJ1 tan paint covering the black A-pillar? I would assume that with 3-4 coats, you would get sufficient coverage, but I am worried that the color hue might get thrown off.

I painted my gauge pod (was a dark charcoal/black) with some tan interior plastic paint (pretty close match). The paint store guy told me all I needed to do was give the pillar a good once over with a Scotch Brite pad, wash it with Joy soap, and give it 3 coats of paint. It came out great.

Sweet, that is what I planned on doing. The Scotchbrite pad gives it a little bit of texture so the pain will stick. I am about a half-hour from the first coat. Can't wait to get the guages mounted on Saturday. Thanks for the input!

I scuffed mine up with scotch brite also. Paint place told me to clean it after scruffing for prep. I used zylol? (sp) and it looks pretty good. Now if I could get my FCensored G gauges here I could get it bottoned up.

I on the other hand went against the grain, just cleaned it with alcohol and then painted it. Put on 2 nice coats and installed gauges about 20 mins later. No problems on my end.. Looks nice and still holding up..

The first two coats looked pretty good. However, it was about 95 degrees out when I sprayed it last night at about 10 pm, so the paint dried too quickly and looked a little uneven and felt rough. I hit it with some 2000 grit wet dry and it looks pretty good now.

I am going to bring it inside tonight and spray it where it is about 80 degrees. That should give me a nice even final coat. I am sure that wifey will be impressed with my home mechanics technique. ):h

Tommorrow, the guages will get installed. I hope it rains tonight (looks like its coming hard) and cools shiit down about 20-30 degrees for the morning install.

Meanwhile, one of my air conditioning units just went out and 1/2 of the house is hotter than hell. Welcome to AZ, it is a dry heat.

Well, I got all my pyrometer and boost guages installed last weekend. They work great and look good too, with the matching A-pillar. The only beef I have, is that the guage pod fit over the stocker could be a little tighter at the top near the headliner. I think I am going to install some double sided tape to get them a little tighter. If that doesn't work, then I may consider tapping a hole into the A-pillar and installing a plastic Christmas tree or bolt to firm them up a bit.

The guages work great and I am looking forward to my trip this weekend to test them out up some 6% grades.

As for the install, if you follow the steps provided on this site you can't go wrong. By the way, for the 05 LLY when you want to tap the dimmer switch for the guage backlights, you just need to pull the front dash panel and pop out the headlight switch box. From there, tap the brown and white stripe wire and you are good to go. There seemed to be some question on whether or not it was this wire or a purple/white stripe wire.
