Live in Ca. and just opened my DMV registration letter.
They tell me that I need to get my Duramax smogged!:eek:
I thought the 07 classic was exammed from smog test.
Anybody got any info for me on that?:confused:

Last i heard they still were emissions exempt, just safety and a "diagnostic port check" thing. But in CA. i have no clue, i thought they were always communists when it came to cars and environment friendly things, figured if the time ever came they would check first.

A weight fee? what the, ive heard of things like weight mattering when it came to plates but not state insp.

I need to smog my truck next week I can get my tags which are gold plated. They cost more then gold anyways.

Yes, the LBZ must be "smogged". Welcome to the peoples repulic of California. I pay almost as much for the registration on my truck as I do for insurance on it. I too am on the verge of bailing from this state.

I doubt I will retire here as I just hate what it has become.

No "smog" test in NJ... used to have just a DTC scan and safety inspection... but as of 8/1/10 all diesel trucks GVW 8,500-10,000 are exempt from any inspection (with passenger plates) :D:D:D

How did you get the weight fee signed off? Did you need anything besides the shell to get it dropped?

How does the shell even show up on the title? Is that some special exemption that you must claim?

A permanetly mounted shell (just bolted on) is all you need. You then go to DMV and they change the status to a passenger vehicle (IE-no weight fee). You may have to get new plates though. Mine are personal so it is now issue.

I was told long ago by dmv this means you can't ever put anything in back then or tow a trailer, but that is bunk. I mean cars and suvs tow all the time all loaded up with no issues from CHP.

Just so everyone knows.....not every county in California requires a smog test, some are exempt. I believe it is based on which counties have the highest/lowest population. So if you dont want to smog just register in another county with less people....if you can provide proof of address that is. There problem solved for now at least.
