Anyone else break or hear of a break on an '01 6.0 motor in front of a 4L80E? My uncle's cracked around the mounting bolts like the older ones would do occasionally. Any certain cause to this sort of thing?
GM dealership said they hadn't heard of the newer ones doing this, but were aware that the old ones were prone to this.
Thanks,

No never heard of this happening on the newer trucks. Must have got a monday or friday built truck or something. But in all seriousness its probably just a rare defect that came from the factory. I could be wrong, but I've never heard of this happening in the 6.0 trucks

Cracked around the flywheel bolts (bolting to the crank) or the converter bolts?
Either way, I can't say that I've heard of this happening on the newer trucks...Now, the older 4.3,305, and 350....that's a different story

There's been reports of this happening on a couple DMaxs (Juice being one), but this is the first I've heard of a new Vortec doing it.

Was around the bolts at the crank. Cracked from one bolt hole to another, then outward toward the relief holes (as in toward the outer edge).
New one is in - got an OEM part. Was only $100 and some hours.

Glad to see they didn't soak you for the new one.
100.00 is a decent price for a DMX one.
IIRC i paid 170CDN for mine

My question is...why did it crack in the first place..

The dowel pins are probably missaligned a few thousands from the factory.

IIRC the bolts on the FP are TTY fasteners and need to be replaced when you change the flexplate.

What's "TTY"? Used the original bolts. Is he going to have trouble? Which bolts, the ones at the crank, or the ones for the torque convertor?
Thanks again,

Single Use Torque To Yield.
