Guys,
I look through my DIC and find a setting for Elevated Idle. IT was OFF and I turned it ON. Went to the Manual and there is nothing about it. The only thing I find is Fast Idle under the Engine Section. Then I do what it says. Fast Idle is controlled by the Cruise Control buttons on the left hand side of the steering wheel. Make sure you have the parking break on and the foot off the normal break. Press the On/ Off Cruise button, Make sure the LED for the Cruise is ON, and then press set. This will make the truck fast idle to the factor preset. If you want to set your own RPM, press accelerator pedal to the desired RPM and press the SET button, Fast Idle will now be set.

None of this works. Any suggestions? Any one have this feature and does it work?

Also what happened to the PTO gear in the Allison 1000’s? Did they say $250 but not putting it in? I heard I can have it installed for about $3000.00 WTF?

Thanks

Elevated idle only works when the ambient temperature is below about 34 degrees F to help warm up the engine in the winter. This setting does nothing else, and isn't the same as high idle.

High (Fast) idle only works if you have RPO code UF3 "High idle switch" installed in your truck. Most don't have this since it was a $200 option that no one knew what it was for, and it was not a part of another package.

Some of us researched whether or not UF3 could be added - it is only software - and at first GM said no way. Later they changed their mind and you could, but the process was difficult and some dealers refused to even try. I don't know of anyone that actually had it done, but here is a link with all the details: http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=350902

The issue with the PTO gear has been widely discussed, if you search you can find out the reasons for it not being installed and the cost to add it.

Your welcome!

Search can be a PITA sometimes. I usually used the advanced and then limit searches to the most likely section of the forum - i.e. Allison OEM for this one.

Here is a good thread search result that explains the PTO gear issue: http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=229131&highlight=pto

I think elevated idle in really cold weather is hard on the transmission cooler lines, might want to do a search on that. I just stick to the normal idle. No trans line leaks YET!....my.02$
