This is a heads up for you guys if your truck gets damaged. I just took delivery of a new 2011 chev dually and put my 03 chev duramax on Craigs list. The truck has 70k miles and is perfect in every respect. I have all the service records and drives just like the day I drove it off the lot. In 2005, we were sideswiped on a state highway by an uninsured driver which damaged the truck from the driver door back. At the time, I was told by the body shop that the frame had been tweeked very slightly and assured me there would be no problems. It's been a great truck and the first guy who came to look at it wanted it. I told him of the wreck and asked if he wanted to see the records and he wasn't concerned. I get a call three hours later informing me he didn't want the truck as the carfax report stated it had frame damage. As I understand it, carfax does not distinguish between getting t-boned by a freightliner or a mini cooper. I am in the process of filing a diminshed value claim. This is a heads up.....If your rig is damaged and the word frame shows up in the estimate, tell you insurance company to eat your rig.

Well if you had the buyer sign a statement "As Is" and the accident was disclosed in the statement the you have nothing to be concerned of. If you don't the buyer will be able to return the truck....

I am well aware of that and am upfront with a potenial buyer. The point of my post is don't let them fix your truck if there is even the slightest bit of frame damage. Had I know this, I would have told the insurance company I wanted a different truck or a cash settlement. If carfax brands your rig no matter how small the damage, you will end up being stuck with a truck that is of little value. Carfax could car less if your rig was properly repaired. They tag your vehicle and you are screwed.

About the only thing that a carfax report is good for is wipe your ass with it because thats what its full of anyways. I had a 95 Caprice years ago and it was an ex-police car. It had also been in a couple of fender benders but I knew all of that and bought because of what the car was...all performance. I ran it through carfax one night for something to do and it showed up like a perfect brand new car. No history of any sort and carfax says that they pick up all issues. Well I know they got everything wrong in that instance. I prefer to do my own research rather than relying on something that came off of the internet, because as we all know...everything on the net is true after all.

When I bought my truck the carfax was perfect, and I had documented service records from the dealer print outs regarding all the maintenance service performed on my truck. 6 weeks after I bought the truck the Allison grenaded....Lucky the truck was under warranty and was repaired....Carfax is only a guide, but might just give you a bit of comfort. Unless you know the original owner, you'll never know how the truck was driven....
