: The Quest for Power Begins
Diesel Tech 01-14-2004, 11:27 AM Here are some photo's of the old LB7 ECM and the new LLY ECM. You will see in the photo's how we get started with developing the code by disassembling the ECM and traceing out the circuts.

OC_DMAX 01-14-2004, 12:10 PM LB7 vs LLY - Probably 3 times the processing power in half the volume (a guess), Moores Law at work here.

Was wondering if anyone would notice, I just couln't find the proper lighting to take the pictures anywhere else. I'm not to good with the camera so I had to send the pictures to Nick and have him make them pretty so I could post them, thanks Nick.
Looks like Dr. Pepper to me.
Thanks for the great pics! Interesting stuff. Smaller and most likely more powerful.
DMax_Doug 01-14-2004, 12:55 PM I guess this means your LLY has arrived???
Doug
MonteCarlo31 01-14-2004, 01:35 PM Ok you got my interest peaked, I am getting a 04 LLY Regular cab and am hoping to have mods by the time I buy in late april early may, any chances????
Lenny
Ray403Dmax 01-14-2004, 07:39 PM Sorry, I forgot to say thanks for the photos. It's always slick to see how time shrinks things while still adding functionality. Now if they could just reduce the LLY engine by the same proportions. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Diesel Tech 01-14-2004, 08:06 PM It's nice that things continue to get smaller but it's to the point my old eyes are having a hard time traceing everything out so I hope it doesn't get much smaller! As far as when I'm done with perfomance mods on the LLY I don't know. We already have the exhaust done but the code may take awhile. So far I know that there is twice the memory as before and a different processor used in the LLY unit. So I've got plenty of work for awhile.

nwpadmax 01-14-2004, 11:34 PM In the good old days, when the talk turned to how much smaller our microprocessors are getting with age, someone would throw in some almost naked chicks to make us feel better. Visual therapy, if you will.
Now we have cartoons with gender-questionable animals having what appears to be an unmentionable encounter.
Hmm. Someone out there HAS to be offended.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif

It's all in the perception ....

sdaver 01-15-2004, 07:00 AM yea pull his azz out from the inside..........kinda like the undercurrent that flows hidden from the public eye
GPtimes2 01-15-2004, 10:23 AM I'm not sure how clean your trying to keep things, but that ain't clean! It's not borderline and he ain't pulling or he would be standing a little farther away. I'am not intending that this be taken as a complaint. Only to say life is full of things that are found amusing an offensive at the same time and to add an oppinion as to how to label it. I apreciate and enjoy this site, and want to say thanks for letting me share my perspective. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big%20Smile.gif

Hey Mac, remember that pic of the 2 gals you posted on that infamous closed thread, the one with the poor gal with her shorts all yanked up to her chest.....
I bet the other girl was just there to help her with that. What a good friend.
It is all a matter of perspective. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
Mike L. 01-15-2004, 04:06 PM Just a question about my observation on Dippers cartoon. Why are the foxes toes dug in instead of his heels? You know, inquireing minds and all that.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
Amric 01-15-2004, 07:05 PM So back on topic.....Somewhat:
Diesel Tech,
Why is the TCM so much harder to program than the ECM? Ever thought of giving up the ability to control shift firmness, RPM, and torque convertor lockup?
Diesel Tech 01-15-2004, 11:43 PM It's not that it's any harder to work on the code in the TCM. It has been more of a different problem with the 2001 - 2004 LB7 units. Since the shift firmness control is not controlled by the ECM but by the transmission itself we worked with TransGo and developted the trans upgrade kit and converter. We knew there was little to be gained in the TCM. The shift points are pretty good right where GM has them! Now that we have finished that development and everyone is useing the kit we help develop I know we did the right thing.
Now on the new LLY trans control is back into the TCM we will spend the time to figure out the code and do upgrades useing the TCM and see what it can handle that way. So there's alot of work ahead for our new truck but we will get it done.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Diesel Tech 02-02-2004, 12:49 PM Here is what the insides of the ECM look like on the LLY.
