Stuck in Yukon, Oklahoma off I-40 in motor home with 6.6L Duramax on a C5500 Kodiak chassis with an Allison auto. Going about 65 when lights came on and engine lost power. Limped off freeway about 40mph to nearest parking lot and called my roadside service. It was after 6PM so nothing until tomorrow morning. They will look for a truck service center in the area for me at 50 mile radius and want to know if I can drive it or will they need to send a tow truck. The manual says it will not operate in all the gears and if I continue to drive it could cause damage and if I shift while driving it could lose forward motion.

I guess my questions are: How safe is it for me to drive if I can without damage?

Is there a sequence with the ignition to pull a code so I know what exactally is wrong?? Or does anyone know what causes this warning??

Everything has been and was running and shifting fine when problem started with no warning.

Im in a super C 37' long towing a 16' trailer with a built jeep on it for about 6500# total.

I'm just trying to research my problem so I will be prepared for morning and have some idea of what a service center may be talking about in the way of time, parts and money for repairs.

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Overnight in the Target parking lot...Rich

The answer to my problem:

OK, here's the story for what it's worth. Lost almost a day and a half and ran around town to three different places at 2000rpm towing a trailer with a jeep on it and flashers going. Stayed off of I-40.

The Camperland Superstore I found out does not do any engine or chassis work and sent me to a truck service center. On the way we spotted an Allison shop so stopped and asked them to run the codes. The results were no problem with the trans and a P0107 code on the engine which was a sensor and it was an active code and also an inactive code probably from when I disconnected the battery in the morning and the code came right back. Everything in the trans checked out OK and the bill was $108. Their tech suggested Rush Truck Service a few miles away at exit 143 on I-40 just outside of Oklahoma City.

We arrived there and dropped the trailer at 3:20 and were on our way at 4:45. There is a sensor just about in the middle, in the front and almost under the air box. The connection had become disconnected from the hood bouncing against the air box and the box hitting the sensor. According to the tech super it is a common problem and he knew right away what it was. They raised the hood pins to stop the hood from hitting the air box, made the connection and zip tied it. Gm will warranty it and they make another box to overcome the problem and if I want, I can get that at a GM service center.

We are back on the road and in Claremont, OK this evening.
