Gents,

Now I know that this is the place for diesel's, but my half ton is showing either signs of it's age, or the fact that maybe it's "owner" is treating it like a 3/4 ton.

SO, what I am wondering is this. I have a rearend for a 3/4 ton that I would like to swap into the half ton. What I DON'T know, is what the gear ratio is.

Now, I have heard that there is several ways to do this to try and figure out at least a ballpark as to what the ration is without tearing the thing apart.

Problem is, I can't remember what they or it is.

Help would be appreciated. THANKS!!:help:

I'm not sure where they would post that information to make this easy. I think they stamp the info on the rear axle somewhere, but I couldn't think of where. Another this to do is to jack up the rear and mark the tire and drive shaft and spin the tire one revolution and count the number of times the driveshaft turns. That will give you a ball park number. To give you the best idea, open up the rear cover and count the number of teeth of the ring gear and the number of teeth on the pinion gear. Then take the ring/pinion and that will give you the ratio without taking it completely apart.

I would count the teeth to be safe. We have a 69, the best looking trucks IMO got any pic?
