: SES light on, NO power...
DURAtotheMAX 07-20-2005, 05:07 PM Well had my first problem this morning... Seemed to be having no engine power above about 45 mph. Also the engine is revving up to 3000 rpm and holding there for a couple seconds before shifting. Soon after that started, the SES light came on. Its not a "limped" tranny because all gears are avalvible and, after about 3 minutes, I can work it up to 70 mph. I pressed the OnStar button to have them run a "remote diagnostics"...I dont remember exactly what the guy said but it was something about the fuel rail and emmissions controls. No black smoke or rough running, just NO power and hung shifts (like as if i was in T/H mode). I didnt think to ask if he could give me an exact DTC number...shut truck off at work, then at the end of the day started it and SES was still on, same situation. I do have an Edge/Attitude, but have never used it above level 3, as I dont have my tranny done yet. So its obviously some common rail/FICM/EDU problem and also some emmisions (EGR??) problem. I have the STOCK exhaust with cat still alive and kickin'. Im good friends with my dealer so he just said to swing by his house tonight and swap vehicles with him, hed take it in in the morning. Anyone have an idea what the problem could be? I only have 4k miles on the truck!! OnStar guy said it was "OK" to drive for 7 days but after that it MUST go in for service...

lakingslayer 07-20-2005, 06:33 PM Remove the Edge and see if the power comes back....stock power that is.
Max Power 07-20-2005, 06:37 PM Definately remove the edge. Could just be a P1093.
DURAtotheMAX 07-20-2005, 07:46 PM Just thought of that...Removed Edge...SES light still on!! arrgghh!! P1093 did cross my mind, but what would that have to do with emmissions? I definetly remember the OnStar guy saying something about "fuel rail" and "emmissions". The lack of accelleration is definetly due to HUGE amounts of de-fueling by the ECM. Its more zippy around town, but once I step on it, its like someone tied the truck to a tree with a huge rubber band. A frined at work sudjested bad fuel...its a possibility considering I just filled up last night on the way home. I only drove 7 miles home after filling up. Then it was after about 15 miles of driving today (almost to work) when the SES light came on. Could it be bad fuel? The only other thing I can think of is a plugged up cat, thanks (in a good way haha) to the Edge (I keep the low boost fueling set at 3-4 depending on whether im hauling heavy loads or not).

PS-- would a P1093 reset itself if the Edge was removed? Or is it only resetable with a Tech II??
jwfab1 07-20-2005, 07:48 PM I had a similar thing happen to me at 41 miles. About 10 hours after I bought the truck. I had it towed back to the dealer because I didn't want to do any more damage. Long story short I ended up taking delivery of another truck.
But the mechanic thought it was a sticky valve body. Never went back to find out what was exzactly wrong with it.
DURAtotheMAX 07-20-2005, 08:05 PM Oh great...i hope not...I probably already have about 45 hours of straight work into the thing between the Escalade nav install, Denali console, ATS Attitude mount/wiring etc...well if it IS something like a stuck valve, would it be worth fixing? Seeing as I have only 4k miles on the truck. Maybe they'd just buy it back for a 2006...with that MW7 Ally! When my dad's 2002 Tahoe went thru its third tranny, the dealer (good friend) just swaped it with the (much improved) 2003...lots of changes for that MY (so in the end, he lucked out)

lakingslayer 07-20-2005, 08:22 PM can you get to an autoparts store that scans codes for free and report? The SES will stay on unil you have so many start up cycles without another failure.
DURAtotheMAX 07-20-2005, 08:24 PM hmm good thinking...ill go cycle the key 50 times right now and report back...
DURAtotheMAX 07-20-2005, 08:41 PM Well that was a pain...all for nothing! Cycled the key more than 50 times, which should have cleared any set DTC's, including P1093 (if it infact WAS that)...SES light still on arrggghhh!! I did all the key cycling with the Edge/Attitude disconnected. Dont know if there are any AutoZone's around here...ill have to check tomorrow.

lakingslayer 07-20-2005, 09:59 PM Cycling the key won't do it. You have to start the engine and the ECM has to go through it's full ECM routine at startup. That is one cycle. The Autozone is your best bet at this point.
painterjoe 07-20-2005, 11:15 PM I had the same thing happen to me on a trip to Idaho. Took it to the dealer and the code was showing low boost pressure.Apparently there was a bulliten on loose turbo lines , they tightened them up and all better now.

hmmm time to buy a Tech II!!! (i wish) If i fixed the intercooler/turbo lines (if it is infact that problem) could I RESET the codes at AutoZone??

Yes!
JimmyDel 07-21-2005, 11:10 AM Was your truck built in mid to late March?
Be careful not to overtighten the clamps. Rule of thumb: between the two loops you want 1/4 to 1/2 inch clearance. FYI
DURAtotheMAX 07-21-2005, 05:48 PM Truck was built in late late Febuary (the 27th or 28th IIRC). How come?
Well...SES light went out this morning for no appearent reason...maybe I just lost track of counting how many times I cycled the key last night? BUT GET THIS...so last night I had unpluged the Edge and had all the cords from it dangling around the engine. I was going to bed, but I did not want to leave the hood open, in case it rained. Then on the other hand, I did not want to close it becuase I would forget about the wires from the Edge hanging down into the engine serp belt area. Well dog gonnit I forgot about BOTH this morning...took off with the wires dangling near the belt AND the hood still open. I was reminded by air resistance that my hood was still open. 30 mph...WHUMP!!!! hood flies up. I slam on the brakes immediately but did not stop as quickly as I normally do because I had a big trailer in tow (go figure...just my luck). Well as you guys can imagine I was a litte miffed about the whole hood thing but on the other hand was thankful that it did not bend the hood back or wreck anything major. End result: broke/bent passenger side hood hinge and since the hood "over-extended" a little, it scraped a bit of paint (about the size of a thumbtack head) off where the A-pillar kinda meets the drivers-side rear corner of the hood. I was able to temporarrily take off the passenger side hinge and bend it back (while I was becoming later and later for work by the minute). Couldnt get the spring on becuase it was under too much tension. It looks fine now from a distance, butwhen you look up close, the drivers side of the hood fits much tighter against the fender than the passenger side (about a half inch gap versus the normal 1/8th inch gap). So...thanks SES light...look at all the trouble you caused. Only to have it go out right after the whole hood incident. Its like it came on just to cause trouble and then went away after it successfully wrecked my day!! Hopefully the DTC will be stored in the BCM/PCM because even tho the problem is "gone" I still really want to know what was wrong. Thanks to everyone for the help...when I find out what DTC it was (and get my hood completely fixed so it fits nicely) ill let you know.
