Truck= 2009 Duramax/Allison 4X4 CC DRW long box
BONE STOCK! No add-ons or deletes!

Item= There is a stainless steel looking tube attached to the top of the engine near the firewall with clamps and a blue rubber hose. The stainless steel pipe runs down the drivers side of the engine to the bottom of this radiator looking thing in front of the radiator.

Problem= The stainless steel pipe pulled out of the blue rubber hose at the top of the engine. It sounded like we had a blow out. The clamp was no where to be found so I was able to attach 2 radiator hose clamps around it. It would not stay on as it kept coming off. The DIC indicated reduced power, clean exhaust system and the little red engine light came on. I finally got it to stay on and was able to make it to the campground. All the DIC indicator messages went away but the little red engine light stay on now.

Monday morning we will be at the door steps of the dealership in this town to see what this 100,000 mile warranty is all about LOL!!

What is this pipe for and what does it do? I am thinking it is the cooling tube for the turbo?????

I'm 90% sure you're talking about the 2.5" aluminized tube coming out of the turbo?

That's the main intake piping that runs from the outlet of the turbo down to the intercooler to cool the air before it goes into your engine. You will get ~25-30 psi of air pressure out of the turbo and those clamps have to be tight and in the right position or you'll blow out a silicon coupling which is what happened to you. Never heard of it happening on a stock truck but it could happen.

5$ fix and you'll be on your way. The radiator clamps don't grab well enough is why you had problems with it. It will be covered under the warrantee and the check engine code is still lit because it's what they consider a "major" fault when the turbo can't make any boost.

Agree with LMM Guy! It's nothing too major. By that I mean a new clamp tightened to specs and in the right location will solve your issues on a stock truck.

Finally got the truck back!!!
The parts had to be ordered and when they came in the first time they were the wrong ones. It then took almost another week to get the right ones in.
They had to replace the entire tube and both rubber hoses on the cooler plumbing. GM has redesigned the tube so that the hoses are not supposed to slip off. Since the PCV system "libricated" the inside of the cooler the rubber hoses could not be clamped on. The new tube is desgned to hold the hose/clamp with a new redesigned end.

There's not a recall on this is there? My truck is also a 2009 duramax.

I don't know if this is a recall or not but I sure would check into this to make sure. I was told that this was a $660.00 :eek: fix but since I was still under warranty it didn't cost anything.

I think he's talking tubes and labour. I just had my door seals replaced - would have been north of $800 if not for warranty.

I have a 09 DRW 14,455 miles and this just happen to me yesterday. The rubber boot has a pre installed band attched to the pipe on one side not a clamp the clamp is on the other side. (My 07 classic has clamps on both sides.) I ended up taking the whole rubber boot off. The metal band was glued on so I took it off and hose clamped it back on. It worked fine all the engine codes went off and I towed a 13,000lb trailer home. The boot was ripped so I took it to the dealer this morning and he told me the same thing $650 part special order you can't just get the rubber boot not sure why they do this but it sounds like it is going to be a reoccurring problem

I did a quick search and found this post

"The issue lies in the fact that in 2009+ model year LMM trucks the intercooler elbow and the turbo connection has one removable clamp and one clamp is factory sealed Therefore you will need to do one of two things to make these pipes work."

Double check your LMM it only has 1 clamp on each end of that pipe Anyway I should have my truck back today with a new $650 pipe. A $5 rubber boot and the right clamp would have worked great It does on my LBZ engine. Thanks GM
