: Saw/Drove an '06 today...
motojay 07-20-2005, 03:50 PM No real cosmetic differences. I like the mirrors but others will not. Tranny was NICE, 14-1500 RPM at 60 MPH. I could feel the increased torque too.
Also... It was QUIET. Like hold a conversation with the engine running, hood open, standing by the grill quiet.
ON edit: The gear selector had a +/- button on it for manual shifting. Positions were D M and L. Tow haul button was still on the end.
Sorry for the bad camera phone pics, but I hope they are of an interest to someone.
motojay 07-20-2005, 03:52 PM More pics. Shifter and shroud for the overheat guys. I dont know if it is different or not.
TxChristopher 07-20-2005, 03:53 PM Is that a different air intake I spy?
.
motojay 07-20-2005, 03:58 PM Yes, different intake.
And I completely forgot to take a pic of it.
It is metal and cylindrical. Looked kinda like an AFE.
Intake tract looks bigger (dia) too. And the plenum is different.
Oilbrnr 07-20-2005, 03:59 PM Is that a different air intake I spy?
.
Yeah, and the fan shroud is different too. Look at the shot from the driver's side. Mine has some sort of electonic CPU tucked into the shroud. Looks like it is now exposed.
And is it just the angle, or is that fan plastic? Looks white to me...
dan_diesel 07-20-2005, 04:00 PM Thanks for the picts! Cool thumb shifter, wonder if that replaces the brake press for tow/haul downshifts?
I agree TX, the air box looks like more of a cylinder shape in those photos...
Enigma 07-20-2005, 04:10 PM I wonder if that new intake has anything to do with the new grid air heater they are supposed to have?
Oilbrnr 07-20-2005, 04:16 PM I wonder if that new intake has anything to do with the new grid air heater they are supposed to have?
I'd say no. A grid heater would be right before the intake manifold, not before the CAC.
sloduramax 07-20-2005, 05:04 PM What is the + - switch on the shifter for?
bettered 07-20-2005, 05:06 PM The comments on the Ally OEM thread say you can manually up or downshift. Suspect that's what it is.

yep, looks like they went to a conical filter this time around??.. good pics.
trout74 07-20-2005, 05:18 PM where di dyou see/drive this thing? is it on the dealer showroom yet? do we have the official Torque numbers and such yet?
off topic, how come we have pictures and specs for the GM 2006 models but I cant get any info on the Dodge and cumminsw specs of 06' yet?
graham
TxChristopher 07-20-2005, 05:26 PM Looks like the shroud is not nearly as deep as ours, maybe they spaced the stack out more too. Probably thicker rad as well.
motojay 07-20-2005, 05:45 PM A high volume truck dealer in Blair, NE has two of them.
No pricing on the window. Demo units.
They came in this week.
I was there looking at a 2004 LB7 when I saw some Ford-ish looking mirrors on a HD2500 accross the parking lot.
"Is that an '06?"
"Yes"
"Can I drive it?"
"Sure"
"WOOHOO!!"
Jay
lakingslayer 07-20-2005, 06:31 PM It would be interesting to see pics without the front grill on and plastic piece above the stack removed to see what the stack improvements look like.
dmaxhd 07-20-2005, 09:45 PM Interesting...I might have to take a drive to Blair, NE this weekend to see the differences from my 04.5 lly.
_nar_ 07-21-2005, 12:23 AM Interesting. I called that dealer when I was looking for my truck...
mole177 07-21-2005, 03:43 AM would one be able to purchase an 06' under the discount?
OCDUNE 07-21-2005, 03:53 AM would one be able to purchase an 06' under the discount?
Employee price is 05 only
OCDUNE
JJs DuMax 07-21-2005, 10:31 AM Whatcha wanna bet those that can prove overheating with their trucks can get one of those bad boys at the GM employee discount price. Cheap resolution for GM IMHO. JJ

I thought I was king of schemers.
Man I wish there were some better pics of that intake. Cold air?
A betting man I am, the electro-viscous fan has arrived finally?
We DEFINATELY have to find out if those parts are interchangeable!
aziator 07-21-2005, 11:21 AM What color were they? I am really anxious to see the graystone metallic on a truck...
killerbee 07-21-2005, 11:23 AM My first guess is the different shroud design, just mounts the ecm differently. I think that's the ECM,and a heat sink on the front of it, or a small fan.
Its the TCM (trans control module) FYI
motojay 07-21-2005, 11:37 AM What color were they? I am really anxious to see the graystone metallic on a truck...
They were Black and Victory Red.
I am kicking myself for not taking better pictures...
Jay
OCDUNE 07-21-2005, 03:00 PM are there pictures of the new mirrors floating around yet?
OCDUNE
dmaxhd 07-21-2005, 03:39 PM I plan on running up to Blair tonight or tomorrow to see these trucks. I will bring the camera and will grab a few pictures...
Shrdlu 07-21-2005, 04:16 PM Look under "New for 2006" at this link for shot of new mirrors.
http://eogld.ecomm.gm.com/NASApp/domestic/proddesc.jsp?year=2006&butID=1®ionID=1&divisionID=2&vehicleID=2251&type=0#
driller37 07-21-2005, 04:18 PM Please get as many pics as you can and see if you can get the engine code from these trucks Thanks
OCDUNE 07-21-2005, 04:49 PM I was hoping there were pics of them on the truck though
JJs DuMax 07-21-2005, 04:59 PM dmaxhd,
Please try and take the grille and stack covers off and get some pictures there to. The dealership salesman will freak, but get er' done. JJ
JJs DuMax 07-21-2005, 05:01 PM New mirrors are just like the Ferd's. Still better than the power extending RV mirrors we have now IMHO. JJ

2006 Power and Torque Curve. No change from 2005. It's hard to read - but the graphic below is labeled 2006 duramax - numbers for peak HP are 310 and torque is 605.
- jeff
Shrdlu 07-21-2005, 05:34 PM The info on that GM Fleet site was posted last May. Hopefully, the official announcement of the 2006 Duramax will have higher numbers.
dmax lover 07-21-2005, 05:36 PM Cool. Thanks!

Hmmm. I'm kind of liking the power extending mirrors on mine. It was one of my requirements for the purchase. Of course they don't fold, and if somebody tries it in a parking lot, They're probably toast, but wouldn't that be true for the Ferds as well?
Oilbrnr 07-21-2005, 06:02 PM Oh, they fold no problemo.
I personally have no issue with them, other than slight vibration. I've also driven SuperDuties, and I don't think they are all that great. The extension is not enough IMHO.
Have not had the oppy to try the latest Dodge offerings.
TxChristopher 07-21-2005, 06:10 PM The extendable GM ones and the Furd ones and the Dodge Lamb (baaaaaa ahah ah ah) ones all fold in.
.

Diesel Nub 07-21-2005, 06:24 PM any pics you guys want i can get..... I work at the plant

Well that's interesting. I was afraid (and still am) that I'd break something. Wonder why they have power fold on some trucks but when they go to power extension they don't do power fold.
Ah, the vagaries of life.

How about one of the air intake area and the cooling stack??
Max Owner 07-21-2005, 08:13 PM Don't get fired for having a camera in the plant......
cit1991 07-21-2005, 09:30 PM From the pics in the Allison forum...much larger fan clutch, probably heavy duty, and looks to be closer clearance from fan to shroud...better efficiency.
I would be real interested to know if it's pure thermal, or has electric actuation.
SnowBandit 07-21-2005, 09:33 PM Anyone know when they will post the 06s on GMC website to build? I am looking to order one very soon and want to figure out what I want in it other than the D-max...
coyotekid 07-22-2005, 12:39 AM Man, I'm gettin' a little jealous already! :)
360 HP with a six-speed Alli? Can you say OVER-DRIVE?!
Corwin 07-22-2005, 03:18 AM Now I wonder if they left the bolt holes for the mirrors the same as 05' and could take my TTT-Mirrors off my 03' and put them on my new 06 when I get it.
NUDIESEL 07-22-2005, 08:20 AM What JJ you don't like the power extendable mirror? I will be glad to try them out next week when I finally get to take my new truck out. The old ones you had to put on were such a pain to get set. I only hope it is not an overheater like I have been reading about now for the last two months. Since I found this forum, I love the Chevy Truck have been a GM guy all my life.
