I was watching a local pull last night and I noticed that in the work diesel class there was everything from regular cab short box to crew cab long box trucks. I was always told that the longer wheelbase is an advantage in pulling but the shorter trucks at this pull on average seemed to be doing better than the long trucks. I have family that run prostock and modified gas trucks and I was throwing around the idea of getting into the work diesel class. I have kind of based my truck search around a longer truck but now I am starting to rethink that.

Longer is better, imo. Its harder to lift the front end of a long truck, but its heavier. A reg cab short box will be much lighter so then are able to hang more weight up front over the front axle and get that extra weight in front of the axle. If you cant hang weight in your class then my guess would be the longer trucks are better. But I am no pro at sled pulling.

weight racks are allowed. I had that thought too because the short trucks are hanging a big stack of weights on the rack and the longs are maybe hanging one or two weights on the rack.

With no hanging weights, longer wheelbases "generally" do much better. When you can hang weight, things tend to become more equal depending on track/sled.
