I think on edmunds website they list the 2006 2500HD as having about a 4000 lb. payload. It's still a 9200 lb. GVCW truck but they made the truck lighter with a curb weight of about 5100 lbs. Is this a typo or are they really uping the payload for the 06 models? I was all set and ready to get a 05 but then I remembered about the 06 models with the 6 speed Allison so thats what I am waiting for. If I get an 06 2500HD and that is the correct payload then I could make fun of my brother for having a one ton that holds less then my HD..lol.
Thanks, Chris

that payload is probably for the std box, 2wd, 6.0liter extended cab. Payload on the door sticker for my crew cab short box 4wd allison is about 2600 lbs IIRC. It weights 6800 empty (Full gas tank and driver only) 9200-6800= 2400 payload with just a driver.

I concur with KTMRFS. You have to watch the GM advertising. It does not reflect reality. My 2500HD / DMAX / ALLI / Extended Cab / Short Bed truck weighed 6400 pounds when delivered withby GM in 2002 a few gallons of fuel in the tank.

I have added some extras to the truck (including a fifth wheel hitch). The reality today is the truck weighs 7200 pounds (per CAT scale) ready to go with two adults aboard, plus dog, a full tank of fuel and a tool box. So I have a payload capacity of approximately 2000 pounds left.

That 4000 pound number sure disappeared fast !!

I'm sorry I just realized that after I posted. That 3300 lb. payload was for a 2500HD extended cab long box 4WD which is what I want. Thanks guys.
