I'm looking to get both a pyrometer and boost gauges and I'm not sure which to get. It's for my 95 burb. I ordered the Turbo-Master and Max-E-Tork by Heath yesterday. From what I've read here, I'm going to need these gauges. I have used Autometer gauges in the past for my cars and like what I've used. They have a variety of gauges but I'm not sure of the thermocouple connection. Many gauges use a gear clamp arrangement to hold the thermo. in place. Is this what's used for the 6.5?

I'm running the Auto Meter Ulta Lite's in my 6.5. Like you I've always used them in car and never had any problems with them. Part number and prices that I payed
4305 - $ 55.00 (boost) I didn't mean to order the 0-60psi wanted the 0-30psi but sent wrong P/N.
4344 - $150.00 (EGT)
4357 - $ 55.00 (trans)
As far as the Pyrometer this one comes with 3 different way to install it. the clamp, weld in bung, and you can drill and tap and it will srcew right in. I drilled and tapped the manifold pre-turbo and installed it there. Hope this helps.

IMHO, it's more important to have them, and have them working. There are so many brands and variations, it's more a matter of individual choice. If you have used Autometer in the past and had positive results, no reason not to continue with them.

FWIW, 15psi boost gausge is probably all you'll ever need. I originally had a 30psi and swapped it for a 15psi. 30psi is slow to react and not as 'accurate' on the the low boost 6.5TD.

Do any of you have a photogragh of exactly where you drilled and tapped the manifold. Or do you know of a photograph available here.

One of our members did a great job. Here's the link.

I used autometer's Nexus line, as far as mounting the taps and thermocouple it is the same as the previous post. The main thing I liked about the nexus is installation of the gauges themselves. Mine are all connected together in series. I only had to run one small wire to the gauges from the controller. What I am getting at is pick your location for the gauges first. If you want them in the dash you can do almost anything as far as mounting. but if you want them in overhead console, then you will probably need electric gauges vs mechanical gauge. I agree 15 psi is all you need for the boost on the 6.5. Nexus only has a 30 psi gauge. This is the only drawback I have found. Although it doesn't really matter that much to me. It still reads boost and I get a much better idea of what its really doing than what I had before gauges.

the major brands all have good gauges, but VDO's vision series matches very nicely with the gm factory cluster. when i had my tahoe, i had the vision series boost & vacuum gauges [monitoring WG vacuum and egr vacuum to diagnose malfunction egr system :(]

i have autometer ultralite stuff now.. the autometer stuff feels like good quality too [lighting on the vision was 10x better though]

Have to agree, the lighting on the Autometer ultalite is fine but could be better IMO. I have the Blue boot things over the bulbs now so that could be one reason. I'll have to take them off and see id that helps.

I decided to go with ISSPRO marine gauges (White faces blue numbers and pointers) and I love them. They don't match the instrument cluster but I really like the day and night readability. I also agree that you should do the 15 psi boost gauge vice the 30.
