So this problem has been escalating for some time now and I don't know what to do next. About 8 months ago my truck started sputtering and trying to stall out once it was warmed up. Figured it was the crappy diesel out here in California so I started adding cetane booster to the fuel. The problem continued. I proceeded to replace the fuel boost pump on the drivers side frame rail. That didn't do anything either. It has gotten to the point now where once the truck is warmed up and I mean been running for at least an hour, if I shut it off and restart it it will run for 30 seconds and then die and will not start again until I fill the filter bowl up with fuel once if not twice. I also had an electrical issue about 4 months ago where I had to disconnect the big red wire going to the bottom of the fuel filter because it kept shorting out the dash lights. Are these two issues connected or coincidence? I had to disconnect the big red wire well after the stalling problem started. I also had the injection pump rebuilt about a year and a half ago.
Please advise.

you answered your own question
you have a fuel flow problem
bad ops, fuel pump, plug'd sock in tank
jumper the outside pins on the ops if you get fuel replace it if not most likely a fuel pump. read various threads on fuel issues.

DB2 IP worn excessive amount, among other parts!!. I woud start at the IP & & have all fuel system componets tested! Look for fuel contamiination in the the system also.

he quoted "if I shut it off and restart it it will run for 30 seconds and then die and will not start again until I fill the filter bowl up with fuel once if not twice"
ip will not cause bowl to be empty.
i do agree if fuel was there ip could be an issue

I replaced the ops about 6 months ago and have fuel flow when I open the T-fitting valve. I'll try the fuel tank sock next to see if thats the problem. That would make sense since the truck ran on bio for a while. I hope to stay away from replacing an ip anytime soon since it was just done a year and a half ago.

when you have fuel at the tvalve is the engine running or just during an initial key cycle?
if during the key cycle the lift pump is controlled by the ecm,the OPS doesn't take over until the engine is running.
you might want to look at the small screen under the fuel filter as well they have been known to clog.

Have you checked for air leaks in the fuel lines?

1992-1993 Has no ECM and the LP is only controlled by the ECM on 96+ (OBD-II) trucks. 92-95 Have a relay that runs the LP during cranking only, then once the engine is running, the OPS runs the LP.

thanx for clearing that up,that info will help the original poster better than my incorrect ecm reference.

You disconnected the heater or the water in fuel sensor. I suspect you have a fuel leak at the filter housing letting the fuel leak out hot. Esp around the bad heater or WIF sensor. Possible even a bad hose.
Lift pump should have pressure, 7PSI min, at the water drain when the engine is running. They can rattle like crazy and pump no fuel - failure mode of the pump or plugged sock or high tank vac from bad fuel cap.
Heat causes things to quit working like bad connections, OPS, etc. Just because you replaced it doesn't mean it is working. Defective or short life parts are common.
