I average (50/50 city and highway) 19.5MPG hand calculated. If I reset the DIC and do a straight highway run at 60MPH, I see as high as 26MPG. On an interstate run at 73-74MPH, I will see 20-21MPG.

My mileage improved 25% when I removed the DPF and EGR.

I have 5 tunes on my DSP5/EFI Live ranging from straight stock to 100HP over. There is virtually no MPG diff between the tunes running the roads empty and driving like there is an egg between your foot and the pedal.

Everyone's circumstance is different, not suggesting modding and voiding your warranty is a solution for you, just providing the data for consideration.

the best i get is 22 on highway staying under 60mph, could only get 19 before. Driving around home everyday i really dont see much difference, I get around 14-16mpg before and after the delete/tuner. If i had it all to do again, i would have saved my money and left it stock.

I get better milage with a higher tune. Hand calculated. About 22.5 all hiway and 19.5 mixed driving. Just went on a 250 mile run today with a 3500# trailer and still got 19.5 mostly hiway running level 4 on EVO RACE

Just buy a Quad St. 2 and kit in market place here and find a piece of pipe from a vendor and get the mpgs. instead of just throwing it out the musket. I just cringe at these guys not doing it when you can save a tank every 3 by junking that DPF at least take it off and replace just for emmissions test. Warranty is another topic so that's up to debate if major item happens to truck. Just what math says as I read it all.

Thats what I did was got the dpf delete pipe with the stealth tuner. It goes on in 5 minutes. I took my truck to the dealer for a mass air sensor and the replaced it under warr.

Where I live I need to pass emissions every two years, so I can't get rid of the DPF permanently. However, I need as much fuel economy as possible as I drive 2,500 (mostly highway) miles per month.

Do you think I could remove the DPF in such a way that it could be easily re-added?

Would I also need to remove the CAT?

What is the EGR that people talk about removing?

Finally, what is the "Quad St. 2" you mention?

Thx, Steve

Do you mean that a DPF delete pipe with a tuner could be hooked up in only 5 minutes?

Would you mind sharing the exact components that you used for the delete pipe? Coud you re-attach your DPF if you needed to?

Thanks

Yes sir, I got the Fel-pro delete pipe. You unbolt the dpf and it has the bungs for the sensors. 6 bolts and your done. The Quadzillla stealth tuner plugs into the port and loads the delete tune the put the tuner back into the glove box. I was getting the maf sensor replaced at the dealer and they got a code then they replaced the cat under my truck. I had bolted the the DPF back in before I took it in and put the tune back to stock. All warrenty work for free. You can get this set up on Alligators web site.

I should have went with that set up on mine. I put a complete system on mine that would take all day to switch back and the edge evo which i had to tap the manifold for the sensor. that would be hard to hide

It will take about an hour to reinstall the DPF and set tuning back to stock, but your warranty will be voided on anything of consequence.

Man, I thought I was doin good with my results after a DPF delete, Magnaflow exhaust, and 50 HP tow tune.
Before:
Unloaded, around town - 12 mpg
Unloaded, under 65 mph - 17 mpg
Unloaded, 75 - 80 mph - 15 mpg
Pulling 10.5K fiver @ 75 mph - 7 -8 mpg

After:
Unloaded, around town - 15 mpg
Unloaded, under 65 mph - 21 mpg
Unloaded, 75 - 80 mph - 17 - 18 mpg
Pulling fiver @ 75 mph - 10 - 12 mpg

I never heard of anyone getting 26 mpg, and I got a buddy with a 12 valve, regular cab Dodge with a 5 sp manual. The best he has seen is 24 - 25.

x2, I never pay attention to these threads about mpg's and try to compare mine to them as though something is wrong with my truck. Glad those who do get the mpg's that high enjoy it, but they are the exception, not the rule, your mpg's are right in line with mine and probably 75% of those on this board. I recently had a guy with 35's, 6.7CTD, MC 4x4 Dually tell me he can get 17mpg towing his 14K lb 5ver, per his little computer screen! I just said that's great! Chris

Did you do these one at a time? Would you recommend doing all three at once? To get back to stock how long would it take for all three? I would imagine that to make the changes in priority order it would be
Dpf
Cat
Tailpipe

Now that you've done all three, in retrospect, would it be just as easy to do a cat back exhaust and then to get back to stock, replace the entire system?

Thanks

I got my pipe from Alligator performance. I did the delete pipe and the stealth at 15k. I was barely getting 12mpg everywhere. After my 36k warr. was up I got the other 2 pipes. A guy I know said his cat back was a pain. You could change all 3 in an hour.

A full system may save a few bucks. I was needing to put mine back to stock if I had work done at the dealer. I had work done twice where I put the pipe back in; removed the tuner.

How is the sound of your truck?
Do you like your tuner?
How much different is the power?
If you were getting as bas as 12 before, would you ay you are at 16 or so now? I am getting 14 - 16 (overall driving) bone stock.

I am thinking of doing something very similar to your setup - I have similar goals I think. if you had to do it all again, what would you do differently?

Thanks! Steve

I have an Edge race now. The power is a bit smoother than the Quad tuner. The sound is great. Have a friend that cant believe it is straight pipe. He thought it would be louder. I am getting 18 mpg all the time with the edge and exhaust. Keep in mind that I am running a 34" tire. I am planning to get the 17" wheel I have set up with a 285-70 for the winter.

biff10, and/or anyone else who would care to chime in!

What would you think of this plan:

1) Install Flo Pro DPF Delete
2) Install Edge Race
3) Test to see how well it works
4a) If happy, leave as is
4b) If not quite happy, add CAT DELETE and MUFFLER DELETE (or change muffler)

Some questions:
1) What % of the total benefit that you have realized in total was realized by doing just step 1 & 2 above?
2) What port does the Edge Race hook up to? (embarrassed to document my ignorance here :D)
3) Does the standard Edge Race have DPF delete capabilities? On Alligatorperformance web site the description says that the Edge Race is "DPF Delete Capable" What does that mean?
4) How difficult is it to install the FLO PRO DPF DELETE? Could I do myself? Tools Required?

I am getting about 15.5 MPG right now with 80% highway and 20% city - I would sure like to see this jump up a bit, plus I wouldn't mind feeling a little motor of the Duramax V8!

Thanks!

The delete pipe is 3 bolts on each end of the pipe. Remove the 2 bungs and install the new delete pipe. I had a local muffler shop weld in a piece of pipe to delete the muffler about 2 weeks after I had it; $50. It took me about a year before I got the tail pipe but that was just to get rid of the trumpet out back.
The tuner plus into the port under the dash and stays in there. Edge tuners have nice displays for egt's and such. It is a good DPF delete tuner. Runs stock to 185hp gains.
The cat delete was just done after the 36k warranty was up. I didnt notice much difference. My truck is a highway queen. No real pulling or towing.
You cant go wrong with your plan. Are you worried about getting service and putting things back to stock??? A complete system can be cheaper, but not if you need to get back to stock for dealer work.

I did the DPF delete yesterday. My DPF pipe bolts were on unbelievably tight. We soaked them down with WD40 and still twisted three off getting them out. WHat a pain. I guess we should have used a torch or some super turbo penetrating oil or something. Then, the DPF delete pipe from Alligator Performance did not come with gaskets. This was an issue being it was Sunday and no place to get gaskets. The original gaskets were totally unusable - as the pipe came off the gasket material was mashed/welded to either the DPF pipe or the remaining exhaust components. Much scraping was required to get a flat surface. Since we had not received gaskets all we could do was buy a metal gasket sheet and make gasket templates. We managed to get the straight pipe attached to the CAT side of the exhaust but the back side that attached tio the muffler had twisted bolts thoroughly intact so all we could do was tie the two pieces together.

I drove the truck about 250 miles today and the performance was excellent. This was about 80% highway/20% city and my MPG was 18.1. I would say this was pretty good as I have been averaging 16.0 for this type of driving. The power feels very good - I would say the truck feels 20 - 30% stronger in the power arena - this was more than I was expecting. It now runs at least as strong as the fully Banks powered 5.9 Cummins I traded for the Duramax.

The Edge Evolution Race was easy to install except is was late when fishing the probe cable through the firewall. The Edge instructions seemed to say to go through the higher firewall grommet which (after about 10 - 15 minutes of trying to fish through with a clothes hanger, we finally tried the lower grommet which was then immediately easier to fish through. The Edge setup was a piece of cake!

I know already the DPF delete is going to be a very worthwhile investment.am optimistic about the
