Have the other thread going, but thought of this, may be dumb but wanted to ask anyway:

I have a leaking oil cooler line and am headed on vacation with the truck tomorrow, so something has to be done.

Can I plug the holes at the block and run the truck 'safely' for a couple of weeks until I can get the nice braided line kit installed?

Will be running synthetic oil with a Napa Gold filter if it makes any difference.

Thanks.

if you had a older block like a 599 then i would say you are ok as i know of a couple that ran for quite a long time plugged off, but since you have a 1999 then you have the terrible 506 block, i would not plug that block, it needs all the cooling you can get

Ok, one silly question deserves another...

If you just plug both holes in the block with, say pipe thread plugs, where does the oil go after the pump??? I thought that the oil ran from the pump to the cooler, back to the engine. Or does only a portion of it run to the cooler at any one time? Seems like you would have to loop the lines, just skipping the cooler...

I know I've limped mine home after putting a stump through the oil cooler by hack sawing off the cooler lines where they go from steel to rubber, putting a double male ended barb fitting (1/2 I think) and hose clamping them. This way the oil still runs in a loop, maybe even cooling just a little. Better than nothing I'm guessing...
