Because my Chevy has such a small tank I thought I would get a couple of 5-gallon cans to put some fuel in while traveling in the western states. We have been gone about a month and I decided to empty the cans into the truck and put fresh fuel in the cans. BIG MISTAKE. These new cans are really a bad design with a valve spout system that is most difficult to use. I now have a plastic spout in the fuel tank because it fell off the valve while trying to get fuel in. It fills so slow that your arms get tired before you get finished and is very awkward to use. The truck has fuel running down the side and it is all over my hands. I threw the cans away. I sure hope the plastic tube in the tank will not cause problems later. The person that came up with this requirement should be put out of his misery before he can accomplish any more stupid ideas. He created a more severe problem than he tried to fix

I use what most hardware stores call a kerosene pump. Red squeeze bulb and I added 2 ft of clear plastic hose. When I need fuel I take a 5 gal can and set it on the tool box and squeeze bulb and before I can finish a sandwich it's empty and I put in additional 5 gal. About $1,000 cheaper than a extra tank and serves a similar purpose.

I also made the mistake of buying cans with the new style spout at Wal-Mart. They are useless to me. They leak fuel from the spout while poring and they are a big PITA. I got a few of the older style cans at a bargain store one day. They were at bargain prices too so I bought all that they had (3) at $5.00 each. Funny thing is; I never saw this new style can around in the store until very recently. Could this be another piece in the Obama plot to destroy America? I don't know if they are required by law but they really suck.

Home Depot sells a little pump that takes a D Cell Battery. There is a warming on the newer pumps about not using it for flammable liquids but they sell them near the Lawn Mowers. I have been using one for about 4 years now and never had a problem. It will suck a 5 gallon tank empty in about 2 minutes. It comes with a hose that is about 2 feet long.
I use this pump to fill my generator all of the time and it really works great.

I bought one of those syphon hoses they use on Jet Skis because all the new gas cans suck. Has a ball bearing check valve in it so you don't have to mouth it. We use it on quads, lawn mower and for gas and diesel when doing projects.
I call it a "Hoosier Credit Card." :)

I have one of those plastic hoses stuck in my tractor's fuel tank. What a POS!. Personally, I would buy one of those 19 gallon tanks ($99) from Tractor Supply that has the squeeze handle just like a fuel pump. Would make things a lot easier to deal with. Wouldn't take up much more room when dealing 2 or 3 fuel cans!

The hose and check valve syphon is an in valuable tool for putting fuel in trucks. Its hard to fill up something with a really small tank though (lawn mower, weedeater, ect). The new gas cans are great for filling up a lawn mower though. That's about it though.
