Has any body run these tires? they are really cheap by cmoparison to any thhing new. I'm thinking of putting them on a 1990 suburban.

Thanks in advance all.

they are pretty good tires for the money. there are also a couple different tires. be careful of the build date. its pretty easy to come across 10 year old tires that are still brand new

I've heard that old tires are fine as long as they are stored in the dark. I'm not an expert on rubber tho

Depends on what you're willing to risk. I've got several vehicles that are running on rubber 15 yrs +, Dry rotted as hell, missing chunks, but they drive down the road fine and have good tread. I just cary a few spares :) I've also had tires that were less than 3 years that couldn't hold air, couldn't balance, and were just a general pain in the rear... Just depends on what you're after. One thing about the military tires is that they seem to be hard to balance. I should put up a pic, but I'll give you a visual. My CUCV still has GOV tires, and to balance them they had to put full weights on 1/2 the tire. 6 separate wieghts in all, looks funny and they still won't balance!

Cheap 37's, ya run em. I personally am not a fan of 16.5 rim's though. They have a very small bead area and have popped more than a few wheeling.

heh, i poped them on the street with a 78 f150 14bff rear and a HD d44, running 265's at the time i went to make a u-turn with the rear welded and poped the front tire right off....

you can get the 16.5's with the lip to hold the bead on but 75% of them dont have it

Agreed. Most 16.5's are crap. Is all about the area where the bead sets, especially if running large rubber of low air pressure...

The extra angle on a 16.5 means that the tire no longer seats on the rim as soon as the pressure drops enough for it to slip back.

I had a slow leak in a ford of mine. I carried a can of either and a small 12 volt air pump. Whenever the 16.5's would go flat, i'd jack it up, spray her full of either, throw a match in and it would re-seat the bead, then air it up. Worked like a charm! those were only 33's, I can imagine 37's would be worse!

The tires themselves tread wise are a little more aggressive than a typical "offroad style" AT. Just be aware that 37s are really pushing it with a stock front 10 bolt axle and with a 10bolt rear I wouldnt even run 37s on a street truck. Just heard too many horror stories.

not the standard military tires, but i had an 01 H1 with 37" SS and they averaged 23 oz per tire to balance. it still rode terrible!

Staun Bead internal locks are the only answer to 16.5's. I'm a believer.

10 bolt horror stores about big rubber?, pick one, I've broken every thing on a 10 bolt except a spindle and hub and that was running 31 - 34's. I'm talking about u joints, axles, axle tubes, carriers, drag links, pit man arms, knuckles and one cracked center section. I got a donor truck to take care of that problem, K3500, 60 front with Detroit and a 14 bolt rear with a Detroit. Play time has just begun!

Big boys got it right...

Lets see. 10 bolt rear stories that have made me go 'wow really'

Broken carrier pulling out of a gravel driveway. Normal driving, loose surface on 31s  That was a good one...

Lets see, sheared balljoints on 35s

So many broken u joints/shafts from anywhere from 33s and up that I cant even keep the stories straight.

Heres my advice. And this is coming from someone whos offroad oriented in their agenda for a vehicle. The 10 bolt rear is garbage. Flat out, absolutely wouldnt keep one under my truck no matter what. Now mind you I'm talking about the rear rear. The front 10 bolt rear absolutely has its place but under a full size it should never be taxed over 35in tires.
