Just put a k@n air filter to replace stock one. Good idea?

if you go look over on the LB7 forum you will find that a test was done on the various filters. The bottom line is this...

1. The stock AC Delco filter performed the best. Efficiency, durability and airflow (most # of pleats) are all top notch.

2. The K & N and UNI filters did not fare well in terms of efficiency. The other problem with the "oiled filters" is that the oil can easily be pulled off the filter by the strong intake. The oil will get on the MAF (mass airflow sensor) and will prevent it from getting an accurate reading. Truck won't run right - any diagnosis performed or damage done to the truck because of this won't be covered by warranty.

GMan66,

JJ's got a Uni-Foam filter sitting in his garage to! Dang air filter study. ):h The OEM does a good job. I'm not recalling the exact name of the thread, something like Air Filter Study IIRC.

Oh yea, welcome to the DP! ;) JJ :)

Yea I got talked into a K&N. Funny how some aftermarket companys really push the air intake thing. Hind site is 20/20 huh?

Intake does more for a gasser than it does for a diesel. I personally wouldn't buy one for either after having the K&N system on my 2000 1500 truck.
