ok can someone help me out i just put in a pmd relocator kit and now when i take it up to 2000 rpms and let it idle back down it stay up for a sec and spits and sputters all the way back to idel and some times stalls out im of ideas some one please help me out

Oddly enough it sounds like a PMD/IP issue. Was it a new pmd or did you just relocate an older one? Kms on truck? IP ever replaced?

Did it happened before? There is a batch of Dtech or Flight System PMD that caused surging.

no its a new pmd relocator kit from pensacola diesel i never changed the ip whats a kms? and it never did this before i put the new pmd on it the old pmd just went out on it? do you think it might be the injector pump? i would really hate to buy one of them they are costly

i think the chip in the new pmd was a number 12 also would that have something to do with it?

Pretty sure the chip only goes to 9, and KMS is kilometers so since you didnt know that you are probably from the states so how many miles are on the truck?

i have 172,000 miles on it i just looked up the pmd that i bought and its a flight system pmd with the #9 resitor

i called up pensacola diesel and they said it sounds like the amrature in the ip does any one have a break down on the ip so i can try and rebuild it my self

0. Describe in detail the problem you are having. Please be as descriptive as possible. if i take the truck up to 2000 rpms and let it idle back down it will sit for a sec there and then idle back down with it spitting and sputtering all the way back to idle and sometimes will stall sometimes black smoke
1. Does the engine crank, or 'turn over'?yes
1a. Does the engine start and run?yes
1a1. If the engine does not start - Crack injector line: do you have fuel? yes
1b. Do you have a Wait To Start Light & the amount of time (seconds) lit. 5
1c. Ambient Condition (temperature outside indicate F or C) _____ °98
1d. Engine Cranking speed (if you have an accurate tachometer).
1e. Are you experiencing stalling? yes
1f. If Stalling, describe (upon startup only, down the road, hit a bump etc) after it starts serging and it idles back down to normal idle
1g. If Stalling, do you notice loss of dash or instruments? no
-note if experiencing stalling,you must indicate PMD location in #24.
1h. Check turbo inlet and air filter for obstructions. Cone filters have lost disk and stopped air to turbo. no
1i. In a no-hot start, pour a bottle of room-temp water on the injection pump. Does it start now? yes
1.1 Lift pump test - describe results. getting fule
2. Service Engine Light while running?- no
2a. Service Engine light does glow during start/cranking/bulb check: yes
3. Model year 1998
3a. Odometer reading (indicate if in miles or km) 172000
3b. Miles on major engine components if been replaced (example Injection pump) no clue
3c. Indicate the model number on the Injection pump (starts DS4 or DB2......) not sure
4. Have you scanned for engine codes? (varies by pre/post 96) yes
6. Air Filter condition (visual check) good
7. Fuel filter condition (freshly changed/condition unknown/mileage since changed) changed 1000
8. Condition of Battery terminal connections (removed, cleaned and tightened) good
8a. Known condition and age of the batteries. 2 years
8b. Are batteries of differing age or are they a matched set? same
8c. Condition of Major Grounds. (same drill as batt - removed, cleaned, retightened) good
9. Upon cold start, does the radiator hose get hard quickly? no
10. Upon cold start, do you have excessive white smoke? no/ black
11. Do you have excessive cranking time before the engine starts? no
12. Have you used the block heater, and does this effect engine starting?(only try for starting problems)no
13. During hard acceleration, do you have excessive black smoke? Yes
14. Do you have any unusual exhaust smoke issues? yes black
15. Turbo check out - pass/fail pass
16. Do you have an EGR on the engine? (An F or an S engine code 8th VIN digit)
17. Indicate if you know if it’s a 1500, 2500, 2500HD, 3500, 3500HD. 3500
18. Indicate fuel that you are using: Bio-diesel, #2 Diesel, #1Diesel, SVO/WVO, other. no bio
18a. If running a VO (Veggie Oil fuel) setup, indicate details of your conversion (homemade, or packaged system) not running biodiesel
19. Are you using any fuel additives? If so, please list. no
20. Please indicate geographic region you are in: (example: Texas or Canada) florida
21. Do you have any service history available that might pertain to the problem you are having? no
22. Please indicate any modifications to the vehicle that might help us diagnose better. i dont not have and mods all stock
23. Upon unscrewing the fuel cap, do you have a large vacuum formed in the tank? yes
24. Location of PMD/FSD? On the pump/remoted over intake/remoted out of engine bay (please specify placement specifically) remote mounted on fire wall
24a. If remote mounted, describe wiring harness (homemade or purchased from a vendor?) pennascola diesel
24b. Indicate the location and condition of the FSD/IP grounding wire. still connected to injector pump
25. Are ALL glow plugs in proper working order as per this thread? yes

and the rpms when coming back down when it does it run up and down between 2300 and 1500 while its knocking and serging
