Is there a computer program that is designed to montior engine parameters? I guess it would be like the edge attitude but that could be installed on a lap top or Palm Pilot?

I know it has been done because I’ve seen it at a car show, wasn't interested at the time so I didn't pay any attention to it. Wish I did because I would like one myself now.

I tried AutoTap and EASE, but neither gave me enough of the specific diesel parameters I was looking for.

To the best of my knowledge, your only option right now is a Tech II tool.

The predator has a lot of readouts that can be useful to you, but a tech 2 can save the info and be downloaded onto a computer. The difference in price is about $4000. For $350, I'd get a Predator first.

The tech2 is diagnostic tool that can capture snapshots of data, definitely not considered a data logger.

The predator is nice, it tells you alot of info, some you don't might not even understand. But what I'd like a data recorder for is when I'm doing the sled pulls. I don't have time to look at the Predator for the parameters I'd like to watch. As far as that goes you barely have time to look at the tach, attitude, pyro, or boost gauges. I would like a recording to record boost, pyro, rpm, gear, coolant temp, fuel rail desired/actual, and mph. McRat, does the AutoTap and Ease do this?

I believe member TOPHOG has something like that. He checked my balance rates with his laptop but I am not sure what it was. Maybe PM him and check.

I have my OBDScan software from this place. I have had it for several years and use it on my Palm pilot and laptop. I have not tried/checked to see if the CANScan software will work on the dmax.

He was going to come out with an IPAQ version, but has not yet.

I have used it on a host of vehicles to read codes, reset MIL lights and troubleshoot other issues.

The sampling rate becomes an issue with Autotap and other diagnostice tools. What we need is a full feature datalogger similar to one of these below. The SCT datalogger also has programmable analog inputs which allow external devices or sensors with 0-5v outputs to be logged, ie: EGT's, boost, wheel speed, suspension travel, IAT, etc.

SCT is working on this for GM products including the Duramax.

Or, maybe Steve can make this happen for the Duramax.

I have a CarChip E/X from Davis Instruments plugged into my Duramax and it provides a fair amount of information and is quite inexpensive. The information is downloadable to my computer.
Check it out here;

Do any of these software programs provide these samples in real time? A good software package that you could hook up to a palm pilot or even a laptop would be good. Or are they mostly just recorders?

I've the Autotap USB version and unable to get complete readings. For example; Injector Pulse Width for cylinders 1 through 4 available but not the rest. Their tech support "unable to do anything about it". Tested on 03 LB7 and 05 LLY with same results. Has anyone had better luck with Autotap than I? Your comments are much appreciated.
