First of all, I would like to say hello. I have been reading this forum for quite some time but this is my first post.

I was just wondering what kind of temperatures those of you with an ats transmission are running. My brother and I had dmaxallitech install an ats stage v and our tranny temps have been running quite high. The guage seems to hang around 200 going down the interstate. Driving around town we see temps between 200 and 240. This seems too high to me. The air temps have been around 90 degrees in our area. Do I have a problem or is this normal for an ATS? Do I need a MikeL :pimp: tranny cooler?

What were your temps like when you had the stock tranny in similar outside temps/conditions? 240 seems high. Beefed up transmissions will run a bit hotter than stock ones due to increased pressures. My SCIV runs cooler than my stock one did but I had Mike install his tranny cooler, deep pan, and synthetic fluid at the same time so I can't say how hot the SCIV is vs stock. I've never seen 200deg yet but I saw 200 with my stock one in stop and go traffic.

Welcome to the site!

Mine runs around 200. Never been above 210. I run T/H most of the time. It's been hotter than normal this summer. Only made it above 90 degrees outside twice last summer.

Kurt. It's very normal. If you know you wont be doing much time in 5th, then lock it in Tow/Haul when you can to keep temps better in check. Get Mike L.s trans cooler as well. You will need it.

i know my Mike L. Frankenstein tranny runs close to 200 in the hot 100+ degree days. a lot of stop and go with the extreme in traffic and i can just barely pass the 200 mark. start doing brake stands and i can hit 210-215. this is with one of Mike's coolers, but it didn't get much hotter before.. with the new cooler the tranny temp will actually drop going down the highway (down to 180ish) whereas before once it heated up it pretty much stayed there.

Thanks for the replies guys. With my stock transmission the only time I saw over 200 degrees was while doing several burn outs in a row. I have been running in tow haul mode most of the time for 2 reasons. One is to try and keep the temps down (it doesn't really seem to help as much as I would think it would) and the other reason is I love the way it feels locked up:HiHi:

I guess I'll have to shell out more money and get a :bling: cooler. It sounds like if nothing else it will it least help to get the temps down faster after the transmission is heated up. With the stock cooler it seems to take 30 minutes or more of driving in 5th with the converter locked to bring the temp down

Some of the ATS Allys do run hot as I have experienced this also. I have been talking to Clint at ATS on a regular basis and have some good ideas on how to drop those temps. I will have a report within the next 2 weeks.:D

I'd love to know what you find out Mike! I'm normally around 200 at least. I'm seriously considering one of your coolers at the very least..

160-200. :d

Mine too. Varies with ambient temps quite a bit. The lower (cold) tank temp of the rad also has a great deal of influence.

Has anyone thought about adding an electric push fan for the tranny cooler, would this help at all in stop and go? I know that my tranny stock runs close to 160-170 cruising @ 75mph, but in stop and go it will hit 200.

BD & ATS both have them on their websites.

My tests have not shown me significant gains with 7.5 inch fan pulling 440 cfm. I am looking elsewhare
