: Edge EZ
GSXR-HD 07-18-2005, 10:55 PM I am looking to put on a Edge EZ or Edge juice w/ attitude on sometime soon. I have a 2004.5 2500HD Chevy Dmax. I am wanting the box for more power when pulling. Right now I dont think the truck is doing too great of a job pulling but I think most of it is because I am running a 285 BFG A/T tire. I pull some small tractors and cars and stuff like that from time to time but I live in the mountains of NC so torque is a big issue. I would like to know which box you all think I should run and I would like some pictures of where you mounted your controls for the EZ box in the cab. Thanks!:ro)
briano 07-18-2005, 11:58 PM to my knowledge there is no control box for the EZ..I think you mean the Attitude controller for the Edge Juice. The Edge and the EZ both install under the hood out of site. The Attitude includes more settings and monitoring as well as safety features and it installs only with the Edge box itself, not the EZ. Check out Edge's site to make sure.
just scroll down or do a search.. you may not find pictures, but you will find answers to your questions.

Not control box, controls for the box...He's referring to the level select switch for the Edge EZ.
Kennedy 07-19-2005, 11:21 AM I typically just use a pre-existing hole in the tin flange below the knee bolster. Just look inboard of the park brake release.
rogdog 07-19-2005, 11:45 PM I'm a newbee with an '05 2500. I was also looking at the EZ.
I don't want to spend the dough on the Attitude at this time and I don't want warranty issues if something breaks. The thinking here is that I could just unplug the EZ, roll her to the dealer, and nobody could say jack. I've read a post here that a dealer used the presense of a pyrometer to alledge that it must have been chiped, therefore that must be the cause of the problem.
Also I don't think I'll really use the extra power settings of the Juice. I'm really after a little punch but mostly better mileage when I'm doing my daily driving. Which brings me to another reason to keep things on the mild side. I drive the thing every day and don't want it to break.
Any flaws in my thinking? Like, should I really have a pyrometer anyway? Of course I want one but not at the expense of my warranty.
I know: They can't, they can't. But still they do.
Thanks
Big_Gunz_ 07-20-2005, 12:54 AM I'm thinking the same as rogdog. I use my truck as a daily driver during the week but on weekends, its used to tow my toys around. I don't wish to void my warranty but could use the extra power on the weekends. Is the Edge EZ a good product for this? How hard is it to install/remove when I take the truck to the dealer for service?
Kendoo 07-23-2005, 01:31 PM Ditto. Anybody with the Edge EZ care to comment?
T Lars HD 07-23-2005, 02:54 PM I'm jumpin' on the bandwagon!!!
I went with the handheld Diablo Predator for the same reasons as Rogdog. I have MBRP exhaust coming to help out with the EGTs, especially with what I have been hearing about the Predators increasing EGTs.
Any input from anyone is GREATLY appreciated.
MoBoost 07-27-2005, 04:08 AM I've had my EZ for about a month now with no complaints at all. I had the full 304 MBRP turbo back exhaust first, this got me 1MPG. Then I put on the edge EZ which gets me another 1-2MPG on top of that on the 1 or 2 setting. Recently towed my 8000lb enclosed on a 1200 mile trip on setting one. It never once downshifted with the cruise locked on 73mph which was a big change from both stock and stock + exhaust. This is exactly what I chose the EZ for, I don't want to race the truck, I just want more MPG and a touch more towing power and that is exactly what I got. I drive around on 1 or 2 with the switch mounted under the hood for easy warranty removal if need be. Setting 3 is too much IMO as I feel the trans slipping slightly as the rpm stays near redline much longer than if it were in 1 or 2.

If you leave the switch under the hood it takes about 1-2 minutes to install or uninstall.
oteo125 07-27-2005, 10:49 AM moboost.... im surprized your tranny was slipping with the ez. i thought they would only slip when running huge chips in excess of 100 horse. i was thinking about the ez but now im kinda worried about it for i dont want to damage my truck.

Yes, that is how mine is when I use it.

Slip all depends on powerlevel generated. Some claim tow safe in all levels, but this is simply because the power level is lower.
Stick with the lower levels on the Edge to keep you in similar power levels, treat it with respect, and you'll be fine.
turbo43 07-27-2005, 06:01 PM I also have a question. I have an edge ez ordered and plan on putting it in this weekend. Is the milage on my dic going to be accurate with this installed or is it going to be way off. Right now the dic is fairly accurate probably within a half mile. I was just wondering how much this is going to affect the computer.

I'm not 100% sure it was slipping in stage III, but it was definitely making a good amount of HP. If you are familiar with a performance high stall converter slipping with a high stall speed that is what I would compare the feeling to. Revs up, then holds at redline for a moment and stays there even with the truck still accelerating.
So far I have noticed my DIC showing 1-1.5MPG less than actual.

Looking for more real world input on the EZ. I have a muscle car for real power and don't need the bigger levels of the E/A or other programmers but looking for a bit of HP/T for towing, daily driving, and the possible MPG increase. I KNOW I can't be trusted to stay off Level 4 or 5 if available and have NO plans for transmission work.
Will be installing gauges real soon (they should arrive today) and will test stock with gauges, then MBRP 4" catback and lastly, the EZ (or other programmer).
Worked the truck hard brand new on vacation. 6000lb trailer, 100 degrees and 6000+ altitude. Got a lot of fan clutch on grades but no idea on EGT or Boost. Engine and trans temps were good (210/190). Probably ran up the 6% harder than I should have but sheesh, the power was there.
I gotta know what's going on = gauges.
I have the Nicktane kit in the shop but have yet to get enthused to install it.
Thanks.
