Wow....Nice. What all you have planned?
Dueling-in-MD 07-31-2010, 08:25 AM Wow....Nice. What all you have planned?
Im thinking that I should start with upgrading the transmission to handle whatever I end up doing. then maybe exhaust, then I should be able to do whatever I want to the engine, Banks turbo and cooler, programmer etc...
still going to use it as my daily driver so I dont want to get to stupid with it.
I am open for suggestions.
dragoonranch 07-31-2010, 09:18 AM Does she have a single twin sister???? :D
Congrats!
Horsehaulin 07-31-2010, 09:23 AM Start with a good trans builder, then get a lift pump and tuning. I always recommend EFI Live, all of the best tuners use it. If they have a stream, they can tune it even if you or someone else has tuned it.

She has a sister. Cute but...
Works for the EPA
vegitarian (I do have to admit that she can make some really good meals without meat)
enviornmentalist
drives a Prius.
Thinks I should tent camp instead of pulling the TT
Thinks I'm totally responsible for global warming because I drive the dually
Supports obama
want her number?

Trans is definately my first step, either that or working on the EGTs while towing.
Have a friend with a new Power Joke, he went with engine big time, left his transmission stock. Im waiting for him to leave tranny parts all over the highway one of these days. He tows a 15500lb fiver while running a 275hp tune.
I think he should have started with a call to SunCoast before messing with the programming and whatnot.

X2. I'd give Mike a call. He can get ya setup on parts for the tranny and might know someone in your area to build it for ya. Nick has a real good Tow Tune that you don't need a lift pump. I ran it for year with a stock tranny. Pretty quick tune and never saw over 1300 degrees.

I think a good tow tune is a place to start.
the truck has 94k on it now. Most put on while towing.
Should this be a factor in what I do? still runs like it was new.
Dueling-in-MD 07-31-2010, 08:57 PM oh and by the way.
I used to build racing engines back in the day. I raced in Virginia and Carolina.
but, they were gassers in cars, mostly 350s, Ive never really dug into a diesel yet, so Im a bit afraid of it, however, Im not so afraid that Im not willing to turn a wrench on my own.

I was ready to jump in there but that last one kinda took the starch out of me.

I'd hate to say yeah then I you burn it up. My buddy built my tranny. That was the only Allison he has been in. He's done alot of Turbo 350/400 & 700s. I got him a manual. Have put about 80k of abuse with no problems. See you have done engines don't know if you've messed with trannys.

Never messed with automatics of any type. I feel like Ive accomplished a major mechanical feat when I change my screw on filter and the truck still goes. Hey, at least Im honest:D

Its a challenge, but I think I could convert her... ):h
Dueling-in-MD 08-04-2010, 10:33 AM after thinking about all the cool things I could do, 3ft lift huge tires, running over traffic on the beltway, or 1000 hp and running it at the track or any stretch of road that could be converted to track at a moments notice, I have decided on this.
Im going to do what things I can to make it pull better for longer.
so, slight tune, exhaust change to cool the EGTs a bit under heavy load,
what do I need to do.
not racing it, just want a really comfortable towing truck that will yank 16,000lbs with no problem

Exhaust, EFI DSP5 tunes, tranny upgrade, Water/Meth injection just for a few things :)
