Got a 93 with a bad 6.5. Have a 1986 v6 diesel that was used to replace the v8 diesel in a 82 olds. what is the v6 displacement and would it have the same bolt patteren as the 6.5? it would have to be weaker than the 6.5, but would the millage be better? were these v6 any good? the engine is free

Not a good swap candidate. What is wrong with your 6.5?

Go for rebuilding that 6.5. From all things read here, the 93 has more redeeming qualities, plus with a few modest upgrades, you'll really be ahead of the game.

I agree, the 6.5 is x (pick a number) times better. The v6 diesel is 4.3L and is very, very weak. The 4.3 has a BOP bolt pattern, which does not match up to the 4L60E.

BOP bolt pattern, I only know that to be a Blow Out Preventer on the rigs with stud nuts of 1 5/8" - 1 13/16". Whats your BOP...lol

BOP = Buick, Olds, Pontiac CR
(In other words, the bellhousings of a chevy/gmc trans don't bolt up to these motors ;)

No word yet Bow, they still haven't pulled the old engine down yet or have the pulled the IP to ship to TDG for service, its frustrating having to rely on others to do your work and then pay through the nose to get it done when you can do it yourself! But i understand them not being in a big hurry when the new engine itself is in a machine shop getting prepped for the splayed mains. One thing i can say is i can hardly wait to mash the peddle for the first time when its ready to go and post some new 0-60's for you guys.

On the lighter side, i caught a 4lb lake trout today... yipee... i used to catch 25 lb lakers in this lake!!!

I can just imagine the look you would get if you took the injection pump off a 4.3L diesel to a fuel shop these days. And trust me, you will have to have it rebuilt, the pumps were very problematic, and so short lived and old, it would he hard to find someone who would even touch it anymore.

Just one guy talkin', but.....stay away from the Olds design unless you are really into doing your own repairs and have a lot of spare parts to accomplish same.

From 28 yrs experience building the Olds design, you'd think I'd have learned by now! I'm in the act of cleaning out the collection. I have four 5.7 cars, 11 engines, and tons of misc. Hope it's worth it's weight in scrap!!

yes, with todays lower sulfer diesel, I think the pump would even have a shorter life.
