This had been somewhat discussed before but never got a real answer so I wanted to mention again.

I have the regular sideview mirrors (without the flashing arrow) and I wanted to know if it would be possible to get them to turn down when you put the truck in reverse. I know the mirrors with the flashing directional tilt down and after looking at it.. it looks like the same exact frame and mirror.. just without the arrows.

Does anyone know if this is just a feature that could be reflashed by the dealership or would I have to buy the new mirrors in order to get this to work? I would think a simple programming would only be required to activate this feature.

Thanks

You should be able to go through the DIC with steering wheel controls and program the mirrors to do that when the truck is put in reverse... If not consult the manual, I think it can still be done if you do not have steering wheel controls.. Good luck

The DIC skips over that option which is why I'm thinking I would need a reflash. I don't understand why it wouldn't be there even with the stock mirrors. I've also looked in the manual and all it states is about that option.. not whether it's included or not with my mirrors... it leads me to believe that I do have it.. yet again, DIC does not give me the option.

Well I would think it would still be there, might have something to do with only being an LS and not an LT... Not sure...Good luck

I think its something "exclusive" to the LT. Remember the mirrors would have to have some sort of memory module to know where to adjust back to after they were finished tilting down. The LS's dont have any memory modules because there are no memory seats, mirrors, etc... The LT's obviously have all the capability for memory everything. I think the mirror would need to have a physical position sensor, much like the power seats (in an LT), so it could remember where to return to when you shifted out of reverse. Id be willing to bet the "non-arrow" mirrors just simply dont have this sensor, and thats why they dont have the option of tilting down in reverse. They wouldnt know where to return to when you put it back in drive. Just an educated guess...

I'd say try Ebay or your local boneyard for a set of the signal mirrors, and then have those programmed for your truck. There's a few on Ebay right now.

Thebac.. any idea on whether those mirrors hold the module required or if there would be more parts required then just the mirrors themself.

Welll im not Thebac, but ill try to help... You would probably need a BCM re-flash as well as a DIC reprogram. There is also some additional wiring that would need to be added to the mirrors...turn signal wiring and I assume a Class II data line (for memory data). I would be inclined to say no, you do not need any additional modules. The only tricky part would be the BCM re-flashing and DIC programming. Wiring is probably easy...you could grab Class II data from anywhere and the turn signal wiring could be found at the BCM (under the dash on the drivers side in the "middle" (below the steering wheel column). Hope that sheds some light on the situation!!

Are there any members on here that work at Chevy/GM dealerships?? I've been a member of IS300.net and 4x4wire.com where there are dealerships that sell parts at a big discount to the members of the forums. Although I've seen vendors on here.. haven't seen anyone on here from a dealership.

Ben may have it right. IIRC, someone once said that GM got cheap (duh!) and doesn't include the wiring for the option if the option isnt on the truck. This makes it a bit difficult to add options later. It is possible, but I am no expert on the new ClassII data electrical systems to know exactly how to set it up....

On my old '02, I added signal glass, and had to tie the signal wiring into the wiring at the BCM plugs under the steering column. I would imagine that if you can figure out which wires at the BCM plugs control the LT-type mirrors functions, you could tie into them when you got the different mirrors for your LS. Then you could have the BCM reprogrammed.

Go to a boneyard and see if you can find a vehicle (could be a Tahoe, Yukon, Av, etc...) that has the LT-mirrors, and follow the wiring back as far as you can and see where it ties in. The spot could be right there at the window switches in the door, or it could be all the way back to under the steering column. If you bought those mirrors, just "include" the wiring when you buy them....

Alright I checked out a friend at work's truck (he has a 2500HD EC/SB that is a "loaded" LS...its 95% an LT minus OnStar and the Bose system) and he has the signal/power folding mirrors. His is an LS and he can access the "curb assist" thru his DIC...so therefore, its not an LT exclusive option...its a "blinker mirror" exclusive option (as is the power folding).

i would have to add here that it may not be an LT exclusive option but you must have to order it (or the dealer ordered it that way) to get it. if not, you probably dont have the wiring for it.

I have a LT with leather bench seats... I have the arrow mirrors and do not think I have the curb or poower fold options on my truck. I am in another state so I cannot check and the truck only has about 300 miles on it so I may be wrong but I do not think I have the ability to get into mirrors through DCI.

Im not trying to offend you, but are you sure its an LT? LT's are only avalible with front buckets/Bose system...

not true I looked at a leather LT on a lot yesterday that had a bench seat with a fold down center console just like my ls but leather.

hmmm I know you can get an LS with a leather bench, just didnt know you could get an LT. Does your LT with the leather bench have the memory seats/12 way adjusters/heated seats for the driver/passenger?Althoguh it IS physically impossible for an "LT with a bench" to have the Bose system...because the center console is where the amplifier and subwoofer are. These LT's with bench's just must be real odd-balls...I wonder why you would want one when you can get an LS with a leather bench? I stand corrected!! Thanks guys.
