I have a 2008 2500 crew cab, with 16000 miles. I pull a 35' 5th wheel occasionaly. There is a shaking at 47 to 52 mph which feels like an out of balance wheel. However, the shaking comes and goes and it does not give any sign that it may be about to happen. I have been to the dealership many times, had 3 rear tires replaced, due to "cupping". They claim the drive train checks out perfect. However, I have been unable to get them to remove the drive shaft and u-joints and check further. The last time I was on the way to the dealership, the shaking abruptly stopped and stayed stopped for close to 2 weeks!!! Any one else experienced this problem?? Thanks ,Charlie

I have a 03 Sierra 2500HD with the duramax and i'm having the exact same problem, while its not really a viscious shaking, its still a shaking that i dont think should be there hahaha I'm going to put it on my lift and check the lugs, check the driveshaft and u-joints, and maybe even the rotors... i do also feel this shaking when i'm getting off an exit on the highway and getting on the brake with no tow/haul mode on... i'll let you know what i find out but any other help would be appreciated...

Thanks For The Reply. I Am Anxious To Know What You Find Out. Charlie

Does the shaking vary by speed or RPM? If it varies by speed you have an issue with driveshafts, wheels, axles, etc. Basically everything transmission on.

If it varies with engine RPM then it is internal to the engine.

By "varies" I mean vibrates less or more, not starts or stops.

tHANKS FOR INFO. SHAKING ONLY AROUND 50MPH. RPM DO NOT APPEAR AN ISSUE.

I have the same issue. For some reason I think it is an internal problem. Mine is right around 70KM/h. I think that works out to about 45-50mph. I really dont have a clue, some days it is worse than others.

sounds just like mine, however some days nothing at all??? I assume you have tried to locate the problem with zero sucess.

I really dont have a clue what it is. I started a thread on another forum. I heard some response of maybe a wheel weight. Its very difficult to pin point where it comes from. Yes some days its worse than others.

I too have this same issue, 2004 crew cab 4x4, I have tried many things and have tried reading everthing on the internet and threads I can find, the only thing I have found is something called frame beaming I guess GM has a tech bulletin on it. I pasted it below, now thats the last thing I'm going to try, I have tried everything else people said to do like I put sulastic shackles on (that in my opinion didn't do anything) $350.00 for them, I also read to put bilstien shocks on so I did that another $350.00 (didn't work) I got $800.00 worth of new tires (didn't work) evan though I will tell you my ride is more "cushiony" but never the less I still have the shake. I'm not giving up one of these days I'm going to try the rear cab mounts like the Tech buliten suggests, Good Luck All if anyone else finds out please do tell I'm going broke!!!

GM Campaign #PIT3009J: Suspension Vibration Or Frame Beaming At 40-60 MPH (64-80KM/H) - keywords front rear shake shock spring tire - (Sept 18,2008)""

Beam shake vibration is usually felt and occurring at speeds between 40-50 mph (64-80 km/h). Hertz readings using an EVA tool are normally bewtween 8-24 HZ. This condition is most common on extended cab and crew cab models but has also been noted in other models.
Recommendation/Instructions:
The severity of the beam shake may vary from vehicle to vehicle. To determine if the concern is beam shake, please perform the following:
1. Test drive vehicle to confirm the condition. A beam shake condition will usually respond to concrete type pavements more than asphalt, so the vehicle should be driven over both surfaces if possible.
2. Place 200-500 pounds in the pickup bed between the closed tailgate and the wheel wells. A beaming condition should dissipate.
If the concern is determined to be beam shake, this a characteristic of the vehicle. GM Engineering has released updated body mounts to reduce this concern for the Crew and Extended Cab Models. There will be no changes made to the Regular Cab Models.

FOR CREW AND EXTENDED CAB MODELS, REPLACE THE REAR CAB MOUNTS WITH UPDATED PARTS LISTED BELOW. THESE PARTS SHOULD NOT BE USED ON REGULAR CAB MODELS.

New upper and lower mounts should be installed at the left and right rear cab position. The new LOWER mount is a two-piece design, meaning there is a rubber mount with a metal washer. Some models may use a one piece lower mount, meaning the rubber mount has a metal washer molded into it. If the vehicle has the one-piece lower mount design, washers (PN 15854745, Qty 2) will be needed to be used with the new lower mount.

Upper Mount 25791031 Qty 2

Lower Mount 25791032 Qty 2

Washer 15854745 Qty 2 (if needed)

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and ccomplete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

this might help. 06 3500 srw lbz cc lb 4x4. we were getting a clunk now and then but not a steady thing going from drive to rev or rev to drive. also when flooring it and turning to the right getting up to freeway speeds sometimes we would get a harmonic vibration like a slight growl. what we found is the carrier bearing was shot and the u-joint in front of the rear diff was shot. no play at all on the u-joint but when the cups were removed two of the cups were bone dry and the bearings had worn into the cups. these were the factory units both carrier bearing and u-joints. also one of the other u-joints was going out. after a new carrier bearing and all new u-joints everything is 100%. this was at approx 100k miles. hope this helps

By "varies" I mean vibrates less or more, not starts or stops.

But what if you do not get the vibration when revving the engine in neutral?
