Does the Kodiak have a 6.6 L LMM engine with a 1000 series Allison just like the Pickups? Are the Kodiaks tuned down, heard they where less HP than the pickups...Do I have all this right or....?

Though the 4500 and 5500 would be more HP.....:confuzeld

Why less power and torque for the bigger haulers? Obviously tuned down but Seems backwards to me....

It is the weight thing....10,000+ LB truck...and the "stock" Allison. Not a good combination for longevity in my opinion. So GM decided to detune the trucks, so the Allison would last a bit longer. An additional 70HP will smoke the Allison in a Kodiak. I have done it.

I guess that's what I kind of thought was the reason.....but Although why don't they use the allison 2000 series tranny? When I look at a truck the size of a kodiak, I would expect it to be towing a load twice that of the 3500 pickup, and with a bit of pep too.

The 2000 series is no stronger than the 1000...just a different gear ratio in one of the gears, if I remember correctly. And I agree...they should have stepped up and put in a heavier duty tranny.

According to all the info I have been able to find. The 1000 and 2000 series transmissions have the same gear ratios.
The 2500 series transmission has different ratios. But is not offered on the C45-5500 trucks.

Maybe it was the parking paul...thingy...Something rings a bell about the 2000 and 1000 being almost the same animal.

The 2000 series looks the same in the picture as the 1000 but it says the 2000 is built for higher torque vehicles with a GVWR up to 33 000 lbs! That is what should be in the Kodiak if you ask me.... I'm sure it's basically the same as the clutch upgrade kits for the 1000.
