http://www.transfercases.com/order.htm I remember it being about 1200 over a year ago and didn't have to pay the core charge as long as it was returned in x number days or could be longer if called and talked about.

The anti rub plate is installed in the rebuilds. I asked.

I know this is going to sound crazy but......Get one from GM a dealer, a year ago they were around $1300, which is about average for a reman, only the dealer warranty was 3yr 36k miles.

Before anyone buys one from a dealer, I'd take a look at this:

What do those pictures of some hill billy reman have to do with buying a transfer case from New Venture through the GM dealer? Im sure Merchant Automotive does a fantastic job with there T-case repairs, but if they can still be had with a 3 yr 36k warranty from the dealer for roughly the same price as all the other Remans then its a no brainer. Even if you buy the case from the dealer and throw a pump rub fix kit in it before installation.

Thats some good marketing on your part, but i think you would be hard pressed to make anyone believe that New Venture ships out shady crap like pictured.

That T-case came out of a customers truck to have a pump upgrade put into it while we were doing some other work on it. And plain as day stick on the side of it was one of those GM Remanufactured tags. You can think what you want, but that's the truth. Now I’m not familiar with who actually does the remanufacturing GM or new venture, but either way for their sake I hope we just saw an odd occurrence and not an example of their standards.

GUYS --

THE GM REMAN TRANSFER CASES ARE A JOKE!!! I JUST WENT THROUGH THIS EXACT SAME THING.

I have a 2006 LBZ duramax that recently blew the t-case just as you described. Case was exploded and everything was junk, so no core refund for me. I had to buy a whole new complete t-case.

SOO, I called around, and sure enough the local GM dealer had one in stock (NP263XHD). The price was $1700 out the door (no core refund for me). I though that was great considering that it had "all new internals" and it has the GM warranty. So I paid the piper and brought it home.

THE VERY FIRST THING I DID WAS TAKE IT APART TO INSTALL THE ANTI-PUMP RUB PLATE FROM KENNEDY DIESEL. I was horrified to say the least. The rear case was obviously a re-used unit that had failed due to pump rub in the past. IT WAS SLATHERED WITH JB-WELD AND THEN PAINTED OVER TO MAKE IT UN-NOTICEABLE FROM THE OUTSIDE. NOT KIDDING! So here I am looking at a "top of the line" replacement transfer case straight from GM with nothing less than JB WELD keeping the oil in it. There is no way this case would have lasted 36k miles. The pump would have rubbed through that epoxy in no time. I just installed the kennedy plate and put it back together. Hope for the best! OOO and also the case halves were not even sealed together with sealant; there was nothing but a grease film on them!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

MORAL OF THE STORY IS DONT TRUST GM JUNK!!!!!!!

Maybe try calling Vernon at transfercase express. Some guys have been getting ford 271/3 cases from him that are set up to go behind the allison. You will need new driveshafts and its a bit more work but it is supposed to be nearly bulletproof. Here's a thread of a guy doing a SAS and swapping in a 273. Good info in it.
