I just changed the oil. After reading about all the problems with the stupid skid plate, I bent a piece of cardboard and stuck it in there so the oil would drain to the pan instead of on the skid plate. Clean as a whistle.

Man, this is easy!!! Friggin oil filter!!!

I don't think I need to explain in detail. Oil all over the place, in the u joint, on my arm, on the ground, and just a little bit in the pan. Dammit, I should of used the bag idea around the filter, it would of been a lot cleaner.

Oh well, it's done, and it's done right at least. PF2232 filter, Rotella T 15W40, I say I'm good to go.

Have a good one!!

Tin foil works pretty good for keeping the oil off the u-joint when changing the filter out. Just wrap it over the joint and shaft and make a little ramp down to your drain pan.

Do yourself a favor, a Fumoto valve, or even one of those Fram drain valves make life a lot easier. I used the cardboard trick successfully the first time, but no more.

Fumoto valve for the pan and aluminum foil for the filter. I changed my oil last night and with a big enough pan, you can drain the crankcase and remove the filter at the same time with no mess.

I punch a hole in the lowest part of the oil filter and let it drain out. Does away with most of the mess, then when I remove it, I use plastic bad to catch the filter and what is left.

I loosen the filter just till it starts to weep a little oil, then punch a hole in the end at about the 9 o'clock position and turn till the hole points down. the oil flowing out the hole pulls air in the gasket area so it doesn't leak. The front end of the truck is raised a little bit.

Sounds like you do that trick on a vehicle where the filter is mounted horizontally.

Mine is vertical.

I just put on a glove, unscre the filter and dump it in the pan.

What kind of oil filter setup do you have that's vertical. I'm interested (sounds less messy). Mine is stock (horizontal filter)

I just let the oil go where it has to go. no tricks being used here. Oil is a rust inhibitor not to mention I could care less if my u joint get some oil on it.;)

I don't really care where the oil went, I was just hoping to not spill any on the ground. Didn't work. Oh well.

Have a good one!!
