I decided to take the truck to the local dealer - 08 2500HD Duramax CC SB with 3700 miles..
I bought it in July of 09 with 17 miles on it... Drove from Houston to Michigan and parked it in the tool shed... Next week drove it to Virginia and pulled my new boat back to Michigan.. It limped twice on the way back... Then it was back in the tool shed... I'm now planning on pulling the boat next month and again in the fall, so felt I should have it looked at...
At the dealer I asked for them to check it for service bulletins... I got the run around - "well what kind of problems are you having?" I said none at the moment but I wanted it checked...
They were balking, so I mentioned it had limped when pulling... How many miles on the truck, they asked... 3700, I said.. You mean 37,000... NO, I mean 3700... That got some raised eyebrows and both service managers just had to go look at the odometer...
The truck was finally written up and pulled into the service bay... A really sharp mechanic on Duramax asked me the particulars of how it limped... the scanner pulled up the two service codes from a year ago... There were two service bulletins on it...
One to reroute the electrical harness so the connector was not under tension... that took 5 minutes...
And the other to reprogram the tranny - that took about 25 minutes...
After he was done we discussed the limp and I mentioned that it had happened twice when using tow/haul mode but not after I went back to regular mode... So, he is ordering a part (pin/arm?) for the tow solenoid...
Oh yeah, they tried to give me a hundred bucks to let them butcher the windex heater... I passed on that - don't like people butchering my equipment... I have never pushed the button so how much trouble can it be in?
